Horrendously low Sim Speed in Multiplayer

    I've been playing some 3v3s with my friends vs Queller bots and later in the game we've been having huge slowdowns with sim speed going as as low as ~25%-6%. The sim speed always says 1fps. How can we prevent our matches from becoming absolute slow mo messes? Even if we play on systems with a few planets it still happens. It seems like the AI are just creating so many units so quickly we can't do anything.

    That often happens when the AI is on a different planet to you.... the AI isn't great at orbital (it usually just goes nukes) so it's units tend to build up and slow the game down. Also orbital transfers cause sim speed slowdown as well, so if the AI is attacking with large orbital forces it will have an effect.

    Things to look at: firstly try playing on one large planet, ideally without trees (fires are bad for sim speed). A moon or ice biome are good options.

    You'll find the AI a lot harder if on the same planet, but it will be using up it's units attacking you which will keep the sim speed up.

    If you want multi planet, build your own map and design it so the planets orbit each other instead of on separate orbits around the sun. This greatly reduced orbital travel time so avoid too much stuff going on orbital transfers at once, helping prevent sim lag.

    The other option is to start with just one or two planets, then have asteroids spawn in later- this means you get more multi planet action but without the AI being able to build too much during the game and creates a nice 'race' event when they appear.
