Sticky for now. This seems to be a useful topic as more and more people join the community. :)

I would recommend site:uberent.com "your search here"

The forum search isn't that useful to me.

Did you read the guide? Works fine for me and I've prolly done the most searching out of anyone on the PA Subforums.

Put the sarcastic red arrow image in your signature. Will make some people smile every time they see it, and it's hard to ignore.

What ever you want to make a thread on, search it first.

Now can we get a sphinx based search engine please?
The current stuff is impractical, results are rarely relevant and you even have to wait to see the next page of results for THE SAME search. Leave alone that many useful search terms only have 2 characters so you can't even use them to narrow the search down.

I get the feeling you aren't using the guide, what are the settings you're using.

Also using a variety of keywords and trying more than once are pretty important.

vBulletin search is a usability disaster.

That is, when it's easier for me to use google site:forums.uberent.com than your own search there is a problem.

It is not possible to blame anyone for not wanting to use it. You might want to look into getting some sort of quick search extension for vBulletin if possible. Those are much more useful.

The whole obsession forum mods have with keeping everything neat and organized and in the same threads is at odds with reality. In reality people use the threads that are active and at the top, they will use or create new threads before old ones every time because it is easier, more natural, and keeps the discussion more focused.
You can force the horse to the trough....

Thats probably why other huge communities use some type of quick search which is integrated into to "create new thread" functionality.

The xda-developers forum is a perfect example, while you are typing the title of a new thread, it uses the title as keywords for the quicksearch and provides you with appropriate threads on the same topic. It even requires you to confirm that your thread is actually on a new topic and that none of the presented threads would fit.

Sure, some users are still resilient enough to create duplicate topics, but thats a rather rare occasion.
