    • Google tried to be evil once. It didn't work out so well. Really, they aren't these big jerks whp screwed up Youtube on purpose. They are just a couple of software engineers with a frack ton of money and influence....what would you do in their shoes?

As any other adverting company Google don't need your money, but your data. This is kind a evil, but it's make them support open source and some good projects because they do a lot more money out of ads than any of those projects could make.

So fact that Twitch will be using Google CDN is great for everyone, but DCMA-stuff which didn't touch Twitch before will be there and might damage it pretty much because some game publishers assholes.

As long as they don't add that Youtube thing with ads and text pop-ups on top of the video, I don't care. I can't stand those things.

Great. I'll now be able to link my twitch account with my unused Google plus account. I really needed this. Thanks google. I am so happy right now...

I'd much rather have that than the obnoxious nonsense Twitch uses. Oh, you refreshed the page? Have another 30 second unskippable ad.

Best hack for this is using IRC client. Actually Twitch chat a lot more useful as IRC. :)

this is the argument everyone gives, and each time I can't believe the naïveté of what I'm hearing, of course Google will turn evil, you guys know nothing of savoring each minute of patience leading to the grand finale.

I prophetise this : adblock plus will cease to work shortly under chrome and most other browsers. And the amount of ads on all their services will go up drastically. (remeber that originally adblock plus wasn't allowed on chrome)
    the answer is yes, obviously.

Given that Twitch is around because of how it promotes the use of games, I fail to see how this'll affect regular running in the slightest.

Remember, the "BS" IP policies exist because the companies involve put those limitations on Google. Not the other way around.

As a matter of principle, I have refrained from downloading or using AdBlock on any site, ever.

I had to download it when I was configuring my Twitch channel because I was making adjustments and needed to see how they appeared on-stream and had to keep refreshing the page.

So yes, Twitch ads need a bit of a re-work. Being etched in my memory as "the only website I've had to download AdBlock for ever" isn't doing it any favours.

Also looking forward to a Twitch Android app that actually works.

I can only hope this means Google will update YouTube's awful live stream service so that chat is usable.

Nothing's final and it may not even happen.

    http://www.pcgamer.com/uk/2014/05/19/youtube-to-acquire-twitch-for-1-billion/
Update: According to The Wall Street Journal, "the talks are at an early stage, and a deal isn't imminent." That's what they've been told by "two people familiar with the matter". In addition, one source claims that Twitch "has considered raising additional funding instead of selling the company".

Twitch vids are a lot better, quality wise, than youtube vids. Plus, Twitch wins on convenience.

Other sources say that the 1bil price is their final agreement.

I've found that twitch videos tend to be pretty low quality and I can watch 1440p videos on YouTube just fine. And the constant ads any time you refresh or login is far from convenient. I hate any time I have to load twitch.tv. YouTube is much better imo.

The main thing I want from this is an HTML5 player. Seriously, what the heck is Twitch thinking? "I have an idea, let's use a dated technology that means no one can use our services on a smartphone!" Ugh.
