It's not strictly a game so to speak, but Space Engine recently released update 0.9.8.0, and it comes with a number of graphical improvements. My favourite being accretion discs around black holes! Planets also look significantly nicer and less plastic-y than they used to. And possibly best of all, it's still free! http://en.spaceengine.org/load/core/spaceengine0980/2-1-0-32 Unless you donate, which you SHOULD.
Still kinda on the fence, but kind slipping into NMS' garden. I'm actually kind of annoyed there's no physical PC release. Usually you can find a decent deal in Aus retailers for a new release. But there's another reason to look forward to the end of the week...
Explain the game like I'm five? Also, can I build a space station and have multiple space ships under my command?
No and no. You have a little ship, and you fly around collecting resources to upgrade your ship and looking at pretty vistas and naming animals Anus Lickers and there are some lore/story threads to follow. Basebuilding is a planned feature. If you want to command a fleet wait for Star Citizen and make an Org.
So it's more of a scenic game or space fighter game then like a space sim and such like the older X3 games?
Interesting.... I might wait for a sale but I am tempted after having replayed Skyrim recently, so RPG type games with open worlds have peaked my interest.
It'd remind me more of a scenic game/ walking simulator/ etc. It's not a game for everyone- but for me it's a dream.
I wonder about that weird drama that some people have about No Mans Sky that apparently two people managed to "meet" at exact the same location but they could not see each other and even had different time of days on the planets. Now people rage about the whole "multiplayer"-promise being broken. I don't even understand what the point is. That whole "you can meet other players in that universe, the chance is just really small" just makes no sense at all to me. Why would they put in the work to make that even possible if it is only for very few, very rare chance encounters that consist of "look I can see another player" and not more? That makes no sense at all in terms of devtime vs what it gets them.
@cola_colin it's the small things that often get you. like in GTA V the raindrops in rain puddles and the subtle thunder lighting behind think layers of clouds in the sky when it rains. or in skyrim the fact that you can mod-in your house and all the interactive elements that allow you to do day-to-day things that are useless gameplay-wise. or in PA the fact the shadows are cast truly from the sun despite the fact they will never be looked at during competitive gameplay. I could go on for hours. for me this little tid-bid stands as valid as the rest of the content. and who knows perhaps it will one day be boosted to usher in different and new gameplay to this game? why not trading ships and guns and naming rights? why not a more powerful ship manned by two?
