Any real time 4x space strategy games I should try out? Stellaris comes close but, war is too "formal" and it's kinda tedious. I've been watching a lot of Star Trek and I really need to be able to send giant fleets of starships into battle, with giant cannons and massive lasers that have a real punch to them. Remember how SupCom had screen-shake when you zoomed in on battleships and stuff? That was good. Star Ruler is a really rough version of what I want but it's just not polished enough. Stellaris as I said, tends to be too formal. Oh you want to bomb the fluck outta this planet? WELL TOUGH NUGGETS SON YOU CAN'T BECAUSE ONLY TWO TRAITS LET YOU DO THAT AND YOU DON'T HAVE EITHER SO DESPITE BEING A MILITARY EMPIRE YOU CAN'T. Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion looks interesting... opinions?
I have sins rebellion... very pretty game though not really my thing. It's a deep game but there's no story to introduce all the tech or build up any purpose. Kinda felt like a chore to learn it all. Then again I'm not a massive 4x fan, and many gamers more into the genre sing it's praises. Personally if I want huge fleet action, you can't beat the homeworld remastered collection.... even the multi player is pretty fun, though they need to rework the balance to make the original factions more competitive imo.
Homeworld isn't exactly 4x. Plus, if Geer's needs a game where he needs "to be able to send giant fleets of starships into battle, with giant cannons and massive lasers that have a real punch to them" then neither homeworld or any 4x game is going to cut it. The closest thing you can get to a space game with giant cannons and massive lasers that actually have a "real punch to them" is Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. There quite literally is no other, nor is there any other that even comes close.
You played HW remastered?! It's got ships literally covered in big guns...?! All that from and you can even view it all in first person if you want...
You played Nexus: The Jupiter Incident?! It's got ships literally covered in big guns that actually look and feel like they pack a punch...?! All that from and you can even view it all in first person if you want... But seriously, homeworld does fall short in that aspect.
i don't understand how so. Even if the name "ion cannon" isn't sufficient to you; HW RM's sound FX; apparent damage and final explosions far outclass the jupiter incident. and all that's putting aside that you yourself mentioned giant fleets a department in which HW dishes and in which JI keels.
Wasn't it Tmartn and Syndicate? Or was Keemstar also involved/is there a Keemstar gambling site scandal?
This looks like it could be interesting: http://store.steampowered.com/app/474890/ Excerpt from steam page: "Uncrewed is a real-time strategy game for the PC with the ability to design units from scratch. Unlike in more traditional RTS, units obey the laws of physics, making design choices especially important."
