Sorry for not getting back to you sooner Tatsujb, I went off too sleep before seeing your message and have been busy since I got up, I've managed to get my hands on some new computer stuff doing favours for people and such like, I'll have that sorted in a couple of days maybe and can see if the problem is sorted. PA isn't the main reason for getting the new stuff, it's just because the stuff I've being using till now has lasted me a few years and is getting cranky. PA is just the reason for me to get off my backside and do it now
I'm posting here again although now the problem seems to be slightly different now. I've got a whole new computer which is apparently a pretty damn good one. Anyway, I have redownloaded PA and started up the game and everything is now fine until I go into an actual match. The only thing that is missing on the screen is the planet (as before) but this time there is no error message that forces the game to close, the game doesn't stop responding or anything like that (I've tried creating my own system and using something that I guess is randomly generated). The only way that I can get out of the game though is by doing ctrl+alt+del and then closing PA through the task manager (probably because I have no idea how to open the menu screen yet (The lobby screen is now working without problems) Any more help would be appreciated and hopefully I can stop boring you all with these questions soon.
in the game settings, are your options set to high or meduim. is Anti-Aliasing and HDR on in the in game setting menu ? if they are turn them off, they cause black screen issues on some systems
It works!! think I only changed the shadows option from medium to low, or something like that Thanks a lot! Now all I need to do is learn the controls, I'll look through settings to sort that out
glad to see you able to enjoy the game now beware, there are some minor server issues at the moment the dev's are working to furiuosly fix you may get booted out of a match after about 40mins, it's ok you can usually reconnect. everyone seems to have this issue, were all hoping its sorted soon, apart from that minor issue the games great, and still very enjoyable.
Have the devs actually said anything about what they are working on right now? If they have, I must have missed it. I haven't seen anything where they acknowledge all the problems the last patch has caused for people. Edit: Since the last patch actually ive seen very little input from the devs at all. Think the last patch was on the 16th?
My guess is the less we see of the dev's the busier they are fixing and sorting thought the automatically uploaded crash dumps. I'm sure when it comes to a server based beta test the server issues would be the first thing they would be working on or having the game hosted on their servers would essentially be pointless. From what i've gathered the main point of beta testing is for uber to prep their servers for this type of game and to make sure the sever side of things is fluent and functioning. When the games released we'll probably find the reason its not multi core coded at the moment is because the server is going to run on 1 core while the rest of the game runs on the other when you play offline single player. Well that's my best guess anyways, its how i'd do it. same if someone host a lan game without a dedicated server , i sure the server would run on 1 core while the game runs on the others. So IMO getting the server side of things working would be the MOST important thing.
Seems like your guessing a fair bit dude, would be nice to know for sure. I mean, the amount of crashes and stuff people have had lately, and the lack of updates and input is kinda strange seeing as they have been pretty good up until this. Bit of a hit and run no?
not sure, if the game has been bad for everyone and crashing for everyone, the amount of bug reports and crash dumps would be phenomenal. If i saw dev's online all the time posting whats going on i would wonder how much time they are spending fixing things. tho i do agree with you, some kind of heads up on when something might be done about these issues would be good, but at the same time, you can't always say hey we'll have it fixed by tomorrow when it could take any amount of time to track down the issues, bug finding isn't an easy task.
Seems that PA doesn't want to work now:/ planets are again failing to appear (and I haven't touched the video settings since PA started working earlier) and now I'm getting times when the game actually stops responding. I have been in a couple of games, which didn't go well for me But still, can't get onto a match anymore.
make sure if you use uber or HIGH setting in the top box, that you turn off the Anti-Aliasing "FXAA", sometimes my game defaults to its default settings which turns that feature back on *sighs*. always good to check to see if it has turned on again. For me the Anti-Aliasing thing instantly makes the game black no planets
if my post above fails to help, repost your DxDiag.txt and PA log file from your new pc, A copy of your DxDiag.txt And a copy of your most recent log file too C:\Users\"YourUserName"\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log\PA-00-00-00.000.txt "Click sort by date so the most recent one is at the top, And post that one here." if you can't see the "AppData" folder try this. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-vista
