It will be interesting how they intend to support GW offline since they are apparently relying on servers to do a lot of the heavy processing to take the pressure off the players' computers.

As far as the game is concerned this could mean that potentially GW offline is a much smaller game that GW online or maybe even a different game altogether, depending on your hardware.

Though I was under the impression that it would be online and offline versions of essentially the same thing and there has been nothing said otherwise to make me think differently.

They will release the server, so you can set up your own if you want. So you could in theory have a server run on your computer I expect.

Yeah, I'm seem to recall they mentioned a dedicated server package for the game in the livestream. I may be talking BS though.

Yea, With the update on this, I'm a bit fuzzy on where the line is between "Play by yourself" and "Live Multiplayer Servers". It will be interesting to see how they manage that one. Will the single and multiplayer versions end up being more or less the same? or will they be different? Time will tell I guess.

In any event, It pretty much tells me that there will be a good solid replayable campaign which I think is potentially even better than a strictly scripted campaign with all the bells and whistles like Starcraft 2. Replayability is a nice thing. I'm pretty excited about the campaign mode.

Both single and multiplayer "campaign" will be the same. It's just a bunch of regular skirmishes based in a larger story, possibly with some scripted events like special constellations, random enforced game parameters (like instant death by supernova, domination or classic assassination as well as "native" entities embedded into the story. Not much, just additional start units or AI controlled bases and alike.)

The only actual difference might be the fact, that in single player (or LAN only / private mode) you would be able to fight a match whenever you want while an open game required schedules for match making as long as their aren't enough players on a single server. Although there is nothing wrong with starting an unscheduled match when enough player of opposite sites get together at the same time.
If one side misses the schedule, the game would either to be postponed or to be fought against the AI / instant loose for the missing party.
