When I look for that it says it's 'free' rather than paid for. It's just the original site that has ceased supplying it?

Anyway I would be saddened if such a good model (already made) didn't work it's way into the game somehow.

There may be a oppertunity, I'm informed by uber, that there will eventually be a store where models and modders can sell things they have made, further down the line. I'm intending to learn the whole process to put the models into the engine to play with them as my commander. I mean if I'm going to make a bad *** commander I want to blow stuff up with him :) If there is a way to bring that made stuff to the masses that play the game I'm happy to do that and open my work up to others to enjoy. After all I do if for that purpose anyway. Even though puppet shop plug in is no longer available, if your a max (or maya I think with the plugin) user there are loads of tutorials on you tube for CAT rigging. That's how I'm going to relearn to animate the commander. I realise now that I could have learnt my whole degree off you tube, Just my degree showed me where to look to gain the knowledge to pass it. Always the way. I'll be putting my progress up here when I learn new stuff or get anywhere with it worth showing.

Decided to do some fanart for you guys.
Started off with a crude little sketch, going to do a render of it soon enough.

Working on a mid range ballistic missile bot.
It's a crappy sketch, I know, but it's just what I'll base my render on.
What's the current poly count for T2 bots?

At a guess between 200 and 400 tris (100 to 200 polys) . I don't think it will be high for standard units. Commanders are between 2000 tris to 8000 ish

Damn, I'm already at 315 tris with the head alone...

Actually it really depends, the Ant for example is almost at 600 tris, and some bots(like quadurpeds) can/will probably get up to about 1000. Commanders sit at around 3000 based on the Alpha and Delta.

I'm sure you'll get there. Even if you build the model and ask someone else to simplify the model or at least how you've constructed it. That won't necessarily mean you lose the core concept.

Are you using a lot of curves rather than box like or flat surfaces?

Post up some of your wip and we can give you some feedback. Try to think that your not going to be seeing it dead up close all the time so only put geometry in where it enhances the outlying shape of the model. That's only if your making it for in game of course if not just go crazy as it's your fan art piece :)

Here's a basic V1 mesh at 720 faces... That is before I start reworking.
Also, who designed those verification pictures for posting? Cthulhu? Had to reload a dozen times to get something remotely legible.

    Edit: Now at 540 faces

The Captcha goes away after 5 posts I think.

Are you aiming for that to be in the same Aesthetic as PA?

Yes, I'm still somewhat struggling with "assimilating" the style of the game.

Then I suggest first you should pop over the the modding subforum, get the current blender importer and use it to actually look at the models up close so you can study them. I ended up revamping a lot of my work once I was able to easily study the unit designs.

I like the new version of gimp, the update finally fixed hard brushes for me.
    Half hours speedpaint.
Small concept for custom commander, ... still working on it.

I kinda wish I'd gone for a custom commander now so I could have had one akin to a Space Marine Dreadnought.
