Fan and Community Art: Official Thread

Im trying to create some fan art, I did a idea in sketchup, how can I color this in outside of using the sketchup paint tool?

Sketchup doesn't have any texturing tools outside of the paint tool, so try exporting it to blender as a 3DS file, then unwrapping the UV and making a texture in gimp.

I learned from the second half of this tutorial. Don't worry about marking seams, just use U -> smart UV project.

Made this mix of a theta commander and glados from portal.
I first intended to make a normal theta commander but it got really hard when i didn't have a picture of a theta commander so i just mixed up glados in it to atleast make it somewhat like.

The alternative unit, is the laser bot. It would provide units with say 30 sec protection from laser towers, using a small localized movable shield emitted from its laser aperture mount. Providing the bots with a protection for short stints. So this unit would go in with a raiding party and provide support against a adv laser tower slaughter.

Anyway, the new snipers look incredible. By far the coolest unit now, with the exception of some commanders.

God, that screenshot really makes me want a Battlezone game in the PA engine.

The tripod-grenadier concepts and the discussion that followed got me thinking about how I would design a 3 legged artillery bot. Remembered a sketch I did of a 3 legged robot a while back, made a concept unit of my own based on the sketch

That's actually really cool! It fits pretty well with the PA style too. I think the body needs to be less round though...

I kept the round shape from my sketch because I think PA could do with a few rounder shell-like units, similar to the Theta commander. I don't think round units would look out of place at all.

Only one way to see if that's the case; tomorrow I'll have to try re-skinning the grenadier (or at least start the process)

But I think the theta isn't really round, it just looks that way doesn't it? It still has some angles...

EDIT: Nvm, you're right, it just looks that way because it's low poly. My bad. Still I think it would look cool if it had some angles along the main body, especially around the eye-thing...

Tried to make it closer to the current bots in this respect, also changed out the weapon to match those of the grenadier concepts:

I like the body better, but I preferred the square cannon.

I don't know much about that show, but it looks to me like that bot has 4 legs, I can see the shadow of the fourth leg pretty clearly...

Yeah, I'd call that four legs too.

He meant a three legged version of that robot. I thought the same as you before i edited my post.
