The efficiency shouldn't be higher. It should simply be a more compact way to get more power. As I said you could theoretically make do with only T1 gens all game, but you'd have to cover the map in them. The reason to have progressively bigger gens here is to save space and more importantly performance.

We have that already with solar satellites.

Sattelites are worse than T2 gens. I'd be fine with satellites being the third option though if they got a boost.

Maybe construction shouldn't be demanding so much energy as to blanket entire worlds in generators? There are other ways to make energy useful.

They don't need a boost. They are a bit costlier and a bit less efficient, but for that you get a (slow) mobile power generator, that doesn't take any (ground) space, cannot be nuked and is invulnerable to any kind of ground/air attack, only orbital. Also they can change orbits now, but I think that's a bug. If you think about it the only reason that it isn't worth it is because if initial investment, if you don't plan on orbital play, and the fact that orbital fabbers can't assist each other because of bug, but the second you get orbital fabbers it's a valid choice.

They do need a boost, because T2 gens aren't enough, you need something more powerful. It's not about balancing it against T2 but about balancing it against energy demands.

Well I don't see the problem with having to actually build up your infrastructure.

Early game is one thing, but mid to late game you should be building mass amounts of everything.
