    I beg to differ.

Of course, it happens in a totally manly way.

    Seems really, really, really stupid.

They are robots, and not all of them will be bipeds so this topic is beyond ridiculous.

I don't think that's the art style they are going for. So I think it's safe to assume there won't be any Male and/or Female units and Commanders.

    Yes. This.
However, I have no objection if there is a female commander that is bases on the appropriate analogy to what a commander really is.
To give it breasts, feminine curves, etc, is actually more sexist because you're basing the concept off of some ideal supermodel woman rather than the body proportions that are more common to women today, especially those who do manual labor.
Likewise, women don't exactly enter the field of battle in the nude, or wearing catsuits, or whatever weird fantasy men seem to have about them.

So a commander should be a representation of its function. For the more humanoid models (since we can be sure the other skeletons get fairly less humanoid in design), they should keep their gorilla-like design, or, if there has to be a female design, they properly represent women in that field of work. (Which is essentially gorilla-like, once the gear is taken into account.)

Otherwise I insist that the so-called "male" commander designs look more adequately male:

Also, we all know that somebody is fapping to defy89's pics . . .

My post was to just to poke fun...i don't think anyone will have much luck finding female like robots similar to the art style..

    Edit:

@sylvesterink haha wasn't exactly something i wanted to think about...

Uber will most likely hang on to 32bit support to make the game available to those, stuck with it ... but where is the guesswork how to make this an RTS game more appealing to the female sex (~50%)?!??!
No titties and robo-cameltoe needed. How about some general sensual curves and lines in the designs?

"I am not attracted to straight angles or to the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves. The curves that I find in the mountains of my country, in the sinuousness of its rivers, in the waves of the ocean, and on the body of the beloved woman. Curves make up the entire Universe, the curved Universe of Einstein"
    Oscar Niemeyer

I think it is a valid point. Although, (...) being a man, I love my robots designed as brutal and efficient as possible.

Also of note, most people seem to be saying that a "female" commander has to have curves and be skinny.

What about the Twiggy Femcoms? Super skinny with no curves?

The Marilyn Monroe Femcoms? Super curvaceous and voluptuous?

The Female Bodybuilder Femcoms? The Roseanne Femcoms?

My point being that if you're trying to be inclusive by including commanders that look "feminine," how do you define feminine? By conventional, modern Western standards of female beauty? At what point does the feminine commander become sexist in its portrayal of what a female robot should look like?

Re: Do you think we need female units and commanders in the

while feminine reproductive shapes are not really useful on robots, some female shapes can be.

I think portal 2 coop, you have the male atlas and the more feminine p-body.

I think more feminine aesthetics could be a way to convey fast movement for certain bot roles.

Also I would have nothing against some of the robot voices to be female, maybe John Patrick Lowrey's wife would like do some XD (if you don't know, she did Glados)

That is, if the bots are going to have voice-overs in the first place, as I would understand if the price tag for that would be too steep.

Re: Do you think we need female units and commanders in the

Voice acting is realy cheap now days (Its relative of course, but it was way more expensive before).

The question is, would we want voices on robots? In my opinion, no. Robots wouldent use speech (They will most likely have some noises and stuff, but voices? Why?).

Re: Do you think we need female units and commanders in the

Voices are much easier to distinguish from each other than computer noises and much more iconic. (I can still call out most of the C&C generals' units taunts :p)

You are right this does make less sense from a realism standpoint, but from a gameplay perspective they make more sense to me, (the whole going for awesome idea.)

Then again, if everyone prefers noises over voices, who am I to argue. If the team would share their thoughts on the feasibility of having voices, we could start a poll again on what the rest thinks about this.

Re: Do you think we need female units and commanders in the

Okey, seriously stop using "going for awesome" as a argument for everything. The quote in question:
was taken out of context and dosent mean that the whole game is throwing realism out in favor of awsomeness. It was directed at sound in space only.
Your other argument that voices are more iconic is something i can agree with, but as mentioned many (myself included) would still prefear machine like noises (like in TA/Supcom).

Re: Do you think we need female units and commanders in the

I interpreted that, that statement actually gained this as the context. You are correct that it has been used in the wrong context as well.

My personal view on this that awesome over realism should not be used for the sake of it, but realism should not hinder gameplay, unless you are building a simulator. That is how I meant to use it, as in my opinion, in this case realism could hinder gameplay. I do not say it will, but I think it is worthwhile to think about it.
