That's a bit crazy but I can see sort of works.

I thought I had seen some crazy configs in my time, but that one puts them all to shame (or the other way around?)

Yes, we all make fun of Scathis for his control scheme. Suffice to say, we aren't using this as the default.

We're still working on the default setup, but the basics are WASD movement, left / right mouse fire / alt fire, mouse wheel weapon swap, tab for scoreboard. Those are unlikely to change. The rest of the controls (skills, reload, use, skill upgrade, use, juice, menus, etc) could change between what they are now and release. Part of the beta will likely be honing this down further.

Here are the default controls as they will be for tomorrow's beta release.

    Mouse 1 - Fire
    Mouse 2 - Alt Fire
    C - Melee
WASD - Foward, Strafe Left, Back, Strafe Right
    MScrollUp - Toggle Weapon
    5 - Switch Weapon 1
    6 - Switch Weapon 2
    L CTRL - Juice
    R - Reload
    Spacebar - Jump
    F - Use
    H - Taunt
T - Talk (Push to talk for voice)
    L SHIFT - Skill 1 (Blue Skill)
    Q - Skill 2 (Yellow Skill)
    E - Skill 3 (Red Skill)
    B - Skill Purchase
    Tab - Scoreboard
    Esc - Menu
1 - Buy Skill / Turret 1 (When purchase menus are open)
    2 - Buy Skill / Turret 2
    3 - Buy Skill / Turret 3
    4 - Buy Skill / Turret 4

A couple of key things that we're looking in to. Toggle weapon is scroll wheel up, but not scroll wheel down. We hope to have toggle weapon work scrolling in either direction for release, but it won't be like this when beta launches. There are also a couple of unbindable keys in the death screen for changing camera and changing class.

Does the upgrade menus; turrets, skills, have to be used with 1-2-3-4 or can you use the mouse or the arrow keys and enter? I

The purchase upgrade menus cannot use direction keys, can use mouse. This is another thing we're looking at, though the current way it works is it buys the ability on key down so having the direction keys bound to this might cause frequent accidental buying.

Our current system also has some problems with multiple binds to the same key, so binding W for Buy Skill 1 will unbind forward even though one is in a menu and one isn't. We're looking at this issue as well.

Ok thanks, just wanted to know I could have 1 and 2 as weapons. I don't know if other games can even do this, but can you bind multiple things to something like juice. Say CTRL + J or L CTRL + R CTRL.

I just love the feeling of squeezing the controller to give me god mode. :p

Oh, I was actually hoping to bind one direction of the wheel to weapon swap, and the other direction to reload

You could solve your problem by allowing 2 different keybinds per action, a somewhat common practice

you can do that with a mouse that allows program the buttons on it (like the razer lachesis) unless of course they made it not work that way

    My planned controls
Having fire, alt fire, and 3 skills makes it a bit tricky, but..

    Code:
    Fire LeftMouse
    AltFire BigThumb
    Melee End
    Movement Arrows
    SwitchWeapon WheelUp
    Weapon 1 KP_1
    Weapon 2 KP_0
    Juice PgDn
    Taunt PgUp
    Skill 1 WheelButton
    Skill 2 \
    Skill 3 Del
    Scoreboard ]
    Menu Esc
    Use Enter
    Skill buy Ins
Or maybe i could do WASD or ESDF for this game

Is it possible to have the skills all binded 1-3. When the purchase menus open, the function changes from using skills to purchasing turrets/skills? It is sort of like the spy from TF2, when you pull out the disguise kit, the functionality of the buttons switch.

Then the button Q could be used for weapon toggling, a traditional button used for quick switching between two weapons. V could be used for voice toggle since the thumb usually rests around the buttons C, V, and B. This will create three vital buttons near the free thumb. Just my concern, since I will probably use skills by hitting the number keys...

Unfortunately, this currently doesn't work. Hopefully it's something we will be able to fix eventually. We tried 1-3 for the skills, and while this seems like the obvious choice for the default, we found it wasn't very easy to use with how frequently skills are used.

Will the defaults keybindings detect keyboard layout and change accordingly?

I ask this as i have a french keyboard :p... azerty, and i have found that some games detect the layout and change default bindings, some dont detect keyboard layout at all... and some detect the layout but dont change anything.

In the first two cases i dont have to remap many things, as almost all of them are where i am used to, however, in the third case, i have to change a whole lot of keybindings as the azerty and qwerty are quite different.

In any case, i will probably change a lot of bindings as well to suit my playstyle
    Probably will go with

zqsd for movement ( remember, french keyboard :p )
    Mouse 1/Mouse 2 - Fire/alternate Fire
Side Mouse Button 1 - Switch Weapon ( if there are only two weapons, probably this will be the only button that i will need )
    Mouse wheel Up/Down - Skill 1/2 ( or 2/3 - 1/3... should test this in game )
    A - the other skill
    E - Use
    R - Reload
    Ctrl - Juice
    Space - Jump
    C - Voice chat

And i still have F for whatever i forgot
See you in game you all :D

Unreal binds keys directly to the letters / mouse button names and we didn't make any attempt to sniff out layout changes. I tried switching my keyboard layout to Dvorak as a test, the result was option number 3.

    Ah, a fellow mouse mover.

Since the days of Quake i have used middle mouse button for strafing left and right mouse button for strafing right. I move using the arrows and change weapons/Jump using the Numpad keys. In games that i have to reload and zoom i use PGDN for reloading and KP_END for zooming.

And the best part? I'm right handed, but i use the mouse with my left hand.

And yes, all other aspects of my life are as messy as this :p
