Custom Commanders: What's the limitation of design?

    Uber has already stated that they want to try and do different commanders, if you can brave it read through this;

    That's why it's not a big deal. Only difference is that you'll get all the custom ACUs within "vanilla" package, so you don't need to have some client-mod with additional models to play with a guy with custom ACUs

    Consider this as "they payed Uber to design their ACUs within original art style by professional designers and balance it within vanilla game". Like hiring a team to make an exclusive mod and then spending a money to push this mod for all users PCs'.

    Also, you may create a mod that will delete custom ACUs and, probably, create a server that will have this mod as requirement (effictively forbid custom ACUs).

    So why you do even care?? It sounds more like envy than anything reasonable...

    Being able to use ACUs with different actual attributes inside a standard matchmaking arena is not a good idea.
    They'll either be better than or worse than other ACUs, and so will by definition change the balance in favour or not.
    The problem is most people don't understand this, as shown by the fundamental lack of understanding on the power of front-loading in the OP.
    The bigger problem is that subtleties of these changes are even harder to spot in development/testing and can only really come out when people have become better at the game.
    For this reason I would prefer that custom ACUs are simply different looking. That's pretty unique in and of itself.

    Fact is that we don't know yet what Uber's plans are for Commanders at all really aside that they want to try doing different Commanders. And we know even LESS about the plans for Custom Commanders(1k Backers) aside from the user defined visual aspect(and we don't know much about that either really).

    It could be that Custom Commanders will only be 'user-defined' visually and use one of the other commanders(Alpha, Progenitor, Theta ect ect) as a basis for stats and such.

    Pay to Win in that context is a funny description.
    Here it should more sound like:
    "I tried to pay to win, but I have no useful concept of a return value for my money, please don't let me handle any more money <returns his credit cards to the bank>"

    short summary (of the not so new discussion):
    - one unit type out of many
    - probably just one (or few) instance of that type per side in a game
    - slight difference might or might not be unbalanced
    - could be a "real" issue in commander only battles ;)

    After the new reveals with commanders and their abilities/modules, I would like to bring this back up for discussion.

    Personally I would love custom visuals for the commanders, and maybe custom modules/weapons too, as long as it doesn't affect balance.

    But what I haven't understood yet, is the thing with the metal planets. Will we be able to unlock "ancient technology" or some Uber weapon for our commanders/army if we can hold one of these planets? I've seen some discussions about this but I didn't see any confirmation.

    What do you think/know about this?
