Set res scaling to 50%. Same crashing. Even with 15GB sized page file. Nothing in log about "out of memory" or anything and still no devs who actually diagnose my problem based on the log. Is there some kind of debugger I can run so I can fix this?
This better work now or I seriously want my money back for being lied to about the minimum requirements for this game. Uber better cross their fingers this works. Just took some ram from another computer and now I only have only one gaming rig as a result when I had two identical ones. Doubled this computers ram.
Well, that sucks. I was pretty sure it was a page file thing. Do you happen to have any software on this list? http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558751813508748383/
It is not my security so stop trying to blame it. I know how to give my game proper permissions! IMO devs are beating around the bush and I feel like I have been used as not only a slave to beta testing etc but the fact that I had to pay to be used blows my mind. This is the only game I am getting such a lack of support in and being beat around as if I am a child and don't know what I am doing.
I just ran Wolfenstein New Order at ULTRA at 720p with no crashes for 6 hours straight. This is a coding problem in your game uber... Stop trying to deny it because you are only wanting me to file a consumer complaint even more. If you devs like I can show you livestreams of simulators too and simulators are much more demanding and care more about mathematical accuracy. BRB streaming kerbal space program and mech warrior online...
I'm sorry your having problems. To be clear the game *does work* without crashing. I've run PA on a total of 3 different systems without issue: 1: A phenom II x3, 4gb ddr2 ram, GTX 560 1gb gfx card (ran on medium settings 720p ok). Limited to small maps due to memory. 2: Intel Core i5 420m laptop (first get), 8gb ddr3 ram, GT 420M 1gb gfx card (plays fine minimum settings, native resolution at 1366 x 768). This machine can even handle medium sized maps ok. 3: This is what I upgraded the initial system to: AMD FX 8320, 8gb ddr3 ram, AMD R9 280 3gb gfx card. Handles the game at 1080p native, high settings preset. All were on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. All run via the Uber launcher, a couple of mods (PA Stats, System sharing specifically). No problems whatsoever. There is obviously something specific to your machine. Some people are dubious about playing PA with an AMD card, however I'm not having any problem with my R9 (besides the contrast being a little high!), and I've heard other people using these cards are fine too. Are you certain that you don't have any of the software installed in the list @DeathByDenim posted? I had MSI afterburner installed and it was causing the game to periodically freeze up. Removing it solved the issue. Also are you playing the Steam version or via Uber launcher? As a quick experiment, have you considered performing a 'clean boot' and trying PA? The chances are there is something installed on your machine that is interfering with it. This would disable everything bar windows essential services and allow you to try the game without any other random software in the way (it's a great way to diagnose problems as it allows you to boot your machine as if it had just gotten a clean install of windows, and it only requires a reboot to restore the normal settings). Info on how to perform a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/KB/929135 Final thing, if none of this works, your best bet is to talk directly with @SXX. He is very knowledgeable and has solved many strange compatibility issues. I know this is frustrating, I'm sure we can get you sorted out. If we do identify a new problem Uber are very responsive, at the moment though your problem is too vague for them to comment. Please let me know if any of the above helps
I just recently formatted already less than a week ago. I will remove MSI afterburner and give it a shot. Do I really have to uninstall my security or can I just shut service etc off when I am going to play PA?
Think this might be due to stupid windows FTH so I am disabling it and also deleting AcXtrnal.dll just to make sure that stupid thing doesn't run. Pretty sad I am a SUPER USER and have GOD MODE enabled on this version of windows and it is STILL TRYING TO HELP ME. Really sick of microsuck forcing all this onto us simply because other people are morans.
@jables, any chance you can get someone to chime in on this? I think we've exhausted the usual fixes...
I private messaged SXX yesterday but no response from what I have researched this breakpoint crash is due to Covenant.
Well give him a bit of time to respond, I'm not familiar with 'Covenant' unfortunately so I can't help. Hopefully Uber may be able to help later today when they get into work as well. Edit: @limitlessenergy Actually this is a thought, can you try running pa.exe with the '--softwareui' switch and test if it's any better?
Doesn't even launch. I put Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation Launcher\Planetary Annihilation\stable\bin_x64\PA.exe" -softwareui Still no one to tell me what this breakpoint covenant thing is.
I'm not sure you can apply the software switch like that, also it's two hyphens '--softwareui'. The easiest option to try this, sign into uber launcher, then go to settings. There is a command line option in there, add the '--softwareui' switch there. Alternatively, opening a command prompt (go to search, type in cmd and press enter) navigating to the pa installation folder then type in 'pa.exe --softwareui' should also work. For some reason switch don't appear to work when added to windows shortcuts. Due to time difference uber won't be in office until this evening (they are utc -8 I believe). Hopefully they can shed more light on that error.
I hope that this could be of help, my wife's PC also kept on crashing in the same manner as what you are saying @limitlessenergy - I managed to fix it myself by turning the Vsync on, her PC is also has 4GB of RAM and a GTS450. The game would crash even if she was doing nothing in the game.
I started getting strange crashes today during morning and did some driver tinkering. Seems like that in my case it was the latest Nvidia drivers that came out yesterday that were causing the crashes, did around 20 quick matches before and after rolling back to the November 18th release (version 344.75). Might be a good idea to roll back to the previous driver version if you have installed the December release (version 347.09), just my 2 cents. -Bastian Forge
Major success moving the game files from usb external 2TB drive to internal drive seems hdd couldn't keep up! Lets hope there are no more crashes from now on! I was able to play quite smoothly! Hope my discovering that it was because of using external drive helps someone else getting a breakpoint 0x80000003 error! Devs be sure to mention it to others who are having similar problems
I've never tried it on external... I guess having a usb controller in between the drive and system slowed it down too much (usb is way higher latency than sata). Nice catch
