Water Bases:

  1. There should not be bases which are completely based in/on water.

That makes sense for some structures like the shipyard. It could add to micro but if the yard's default state was submerged and it auto surfaced to build that could work.

That opens a whole new can of worms. Something like that has been mentioned in at least one of the other threads (the big naval one I think). One issue is that if the base can move then it is less of a base. As for being towed, that sounds interesting (and there are things like mobile docks, and plans for larger mobile naval structures in real life), but I think it may be too much.

Moving a floating base around does sound awesome, maybe a submarine base would be awesomely static. Maybe you could tow a floating base or add engine pods, have the whole thing connected by struts if you build close enough together. Add turrets and have a DIY mobile battle platform.

I guess in theory you should be able to build a floating base over a submarine base and have submarine units underneath it. You would need to be able to zoom below the surface to manage the submarine base and units.

I had not thought about that, that makes it a choice of mobility or stealth.

You could have a secondary stealth base halfway round the water-planet to assist with one's schemes.

If it had a few bubbles, domes and tubes like something out of Stingray or a Gungan city it could be even more awesome.

Plus underwater explosions with a surface booosh! when an underwater power generator goes up... etc

That planet has an underwater base. What shall we do?

Start building the engines, tonight we ride the asteroid.

Yeah. I'm guessing you need resources for those engines.

If the game is just a race to the asteroids why bother with planets at all, they're just there to be destroyed so let's not even send any units there.

i really think submerging should be used as a defensive measure and during that time you cannot build anything from those structures

I think this is the perfect thread for a quote from Stargate Atlantis:
and back to the topic. ;)
