    Any counter would also need to apply to groups of landers sent after the Com. If you can build one lander, you can build three.

    Personally I'd like the commander to keep firing at the transport once inside the transport. Once destroyed the commander would fall freely. Depending on the speed he might even survive the landing.

    Not currently as the death of the transport means the commander also dies.

    I was thinking that the Lander would be destroyed by the Avenger(s) before it got to your commander.

    As far as I can tell, the Astraeus don't stay in the orbital zone for nearly long enough for Avengers to attack it effectively (unless you are not paying attention to it). I can't back this up with experience though.

    You could get a critical mass of fighters to do it, but I think that'd be a lot - possibly too many as the only limitation stopping this is not being able to get enough fighters in range during the time avaliable

    One counter idea that I just had was, could the commander just fall back to planet if it goes boom?

    Or if the commander is in deep space, it could simply remain there, immobile. You could then send your own lander to pick it up again.

    The simple solution was to let the Astreus be attacked, perhaps even d-gunned. Instead you took something awesome out of the game. Don't go down this path. Not even for a minute.

    Put commander on a transport, thereby meaning no transport can kidnap him.

    I like the idea of the commander just reentering and surviving the fall (with some damage perhaps) when the transport is destroyed

    Ha, I like that idea. There is something very unsatisfying shooting down a commander with the a few orbital fighter (or air fighters). Making him crash into the planet and just taking damage from the fall would be more fun. Bonus points for a cool "THUD!" sounds.
