Can anyone clarify what "area and line commands" are? But thanks neutrino for the communication. Even if there isn't a build coming soon, it's nice to know what's going on. As you might have noticed, the community tends to get really invested in stuff like this.
A area command allows you to tell specific unit or groups of units too what do something in an area. Say if you had a group of engineers you could tell the specific group area to patrol and reclaim metal. Line commands allow you to create formations.
More interesting than that is area attack commands. Unlike SUPCOM2, this isn't planned to be a fancy way to queue attacks, rather the unit AI will make a determination on how best to split itself between the targets to make best use of its weapons, especially in scenarios such as bombing runs.
Actually from what I understood, they are LOD "effects". They are something that looks like a normal prop from a distance but it's really low res and and thus consumes a lot less memory than the original prop. Another example of what it is would be SJD Sathanas from freespace 2. Old computers couldn't handle more 6 Biggest-battleships-in-the-game jumping in form different sectors AND the battle raging on your proximity. So they put in the imposters that looked like the normal SJ Sathanas from a distance and in targeting view.
