    Dawn of War Dark Crusade

    Company of Heroes 2

    Wargame Airland Battle/Red Dragon

All of them featured similar features. Dark Crusade had you unlock bonuses depending on conquered territory, while CoH2 and Wargame have you unlocking cards/abilities/generals through points/XP progression.

Many RTSs feature campaign-only units which are unlocked by progressing through the campaign.

We were sold upon a lot of ideas and concepts during the original Kickstarter campaign. Because it was an entire month long campaign, not just a single video. Plus all of the different things they've told us in the past year since it was officially funded.

One of those was this was a spiritual successor to TA, not SupCom. Another was what you see is what you get, no upgrades, no skills, no promotions.

I was hoping for something like a galaxy-scale metal income proportional to the metal-spot count in all systems you control, which you use to build metal planets that can be deployed to assault fully-developed enemy systems.

Still, it's too early to judge what Uber has yet.

Dark crusade also had the wargear that you unlocked through victories and other achievements.

And that's exactly what we got. The normal PA game is exactly that. But Galactic war must be different, otherwise it is pointless and boring.

Dawn of War 2 did the same. Presumably Soulstorm did too.

See i believe that is out of context... not to be applied to the entire game..

SupCom and TA had NOTHING similar to the Galactic war therefore it should not be present, by your definition, in planetary annihilation.

The proper context for ........One of those was this was a spiritual successor to TA, not SupCom. Another was what you see is what you get, no upgrades, no skills, no promotions..............

They were referencing units.. which remains the same as supcom and TA

Some rpg elements would add variety to it I think. Without any form of skills, powerups, tech or any other advantages, it would just be a series of battles rather than 'galactic war' I feel. How else should they add 'strategy' to it?

I don't like the random factor there is to unlocking it though, currency and a store would be a nicer way.

Well actually commander abilities was something that was on the table for a long time.

I think it should depend on which system you capture.

Are you talking about a game mode you've seen or played?

Well, technically, drops are not a problem : you just unlock stuff for the game as you progress.
IE : you start with the commander, a turret and a factory.
And after each conquered planet, you assimilate one unit (drop).

    Don't see the problem.
Give an impression of conquest, assimilation etc...

As long, of course, as there is no microtransactions.
This is not a free-to-play game. Some guys payed a lot of money to get it...

We're still going to be getting some form of Commander Abilities. Not all Commanders will be the same – that just hasn't been implemented yet.

And for $1.99, you can get 50 more in game currency to get the mega unit to destroy your opponent!

We'll see. But I don't like the first thing I heard about the Galactic War.

Random card drops? Special abilities? Bonuses? These are all things that Uber has spoken out against.

Pretty sure that's not what he's talking about (or at least I hope not). In battlefront 2's galactic conquest you would gain "credits" from each planet you had captured every turn, and with those you could purchase new units or game-altering "cards" that would change one battle.

Do you have a rough estimate on when you're pushing this out Scathis? I can't keep running the launcher all the time, it makes my GPU sound like a farm tractor.

    And please don't say Soon(TM).

You are making assumptions about how those mechanics work that are completely inaccurate.

Just wait until you play it before jumping on the hate bandwagon. :D
