Since the majority of people in the topic are against it, maybe uber will reconsider it?

    Probably not :'(

    1. Against
    2. Assassin/Tank. It's cool how they're upping the ammo damage buff for jet gun at least.

One more thing that'll make it easier to kill assassins as tanks :)

The Assassin is not getting a nerf but it is getting a Buff.

"Normalized time between a grapple miss and the ability to grapple again for all grapples. The biggest change is the Assassin not having as big of a penalty for a missed grapple."

"Fixed Assassins being able to cloak during a grapple."

Fixed meaning it wasn't intended. An Assassin uncloaks while attacking. Grappling is an attack.

How is that a buff? I'd rather be able to not get shot by hacked firebases across the map whilst I'm grappling, instead of "Oh i missed a grapple no big I'll just do it again".

Actually they only uncloak when the grapple hits. Missed grapples don't uncloak. Should they fix that too? :p

To be honest, a good designer might set out with an idea of how something should play but they should ideally never discount unexpected ways players can find to enjoy their game. The entire fighting game genre was born from 'unintended behaviour' in streetfighter: Combos were a bug! The developers embraced it and now have one of the most successful games in the genre they helped make popular.

I'm not saying that the assassin recloak during grapple is genre-birthing or anything, but I do have to admit I found it a refreshing change from the usual cloaking rules in other games. It feels like this fix is more of a "other games do it this way, so we should too" rather than a proper examination of this unexpected quirk and what it contributes to the game.

So what if was Intended? It's intellegent and it works. An assassin should be great at assassinations. With this update they'll die while doing so. So their only real offense that players had to watch out for has been nerfed.

Snipers can throw flak, shoot and grapple but their traps don't dissappear. Because traps protect them. Support can fire his shot gun, throw an air strike and grapple you, all while his firebase is shooting you AND healing him. It's his protecting him also. The assassin with low health is protected only by cloak. But some beleive that should be taken away? That doesn't even have attack properties like firebases and traps, but assassins shouldn't have it while they attempt the ONE real threat the have?

All they get is protection from firebases and turrets, NOT other pros. So no one should be against them going back into cloak. If you want to kill the assassin, do it yourself, it's easy. Why vote to have you base/turret do it dor you? That's cheap.

I guess fair is too much too ask for. Lol

And if you've ever played Tribes, the gameplay that evolved was based entirely on an unintended physics quirk

    Ah! you mean skiing XD
    That was fun!

Also in 'Gunz Online' most of the long-time players only continue to play due to the "K-style" method of fighting which is entirely based around glitches caused by the sword slash animation resetting the dash flag on their character (you see people flying around and bouncing off walls like spiderman slashing their sword constantly thanks to this... it's kinda cool actually :3 )

1 - AGAINST (but FOR if Uber severely tests and ensures that Assassins have a role they are best at)

    2 - Sniper (50%), Gunner (40%), Assassin (10%)

Half of the things they are changing are things that were not intended, therefore a reason why they aren't in the game. If you relied on an exploit to get kills, you were playing the wrong class.

oh, if it's not intended then it must be bad. Better phone up Capcom and tell them to stop the street fighter series then. They'll be sad to hear the news : (

If I get in touch with Capcom, you can go tell the people still playing tribes and Gunz Online that they're doing it wrong and should cease immediately. We can't have people having unintended fun or who knows what would happen! We must crush this insubordination at once!!! :p

Damn those players with their adaptability and emergent gameplay! Damn them to helllllllll!!!

Damn Uber for fixing glitches and making all the Assassins cry! Why did they have to support their game and fix glitches that were not intended, why?! They are ruining every glitch that you have worked hard to master! The nerve of them fixing their game to work like they intended.

If pressing Y during a grapple is considered 'mastery' by anyone I think they have a lot more to worry about than this 'fix' :3
If you're talking about the speed run and double bomb jump then sure, it's good that they're fixing them because they were genuinely detrimental to the game... or are you going to make a case that the grapple cloak trick was also some kind of abomination that was sending legions of players screaming from the game in horror/frustration? :p

My favourite word in all of this is 'intended' however. You're a clever person hiero and I'm guessing you've read my previous posts so therefore you're likely understand what I'm getting at by how something shouldn't just be thrown out merely because it's not intended. Whether you agree with it or not is another matter though, but I'm sure you probably understand my stance. For me this more an issue of principles than anything else. I expect these threads and posts to have little to no effect because I believe the motivation behind this decision is following through on what they envisioned for the game a long time back and in many ways that's my real concern; that this is a pursuit of 'intended' rather than questioning 'does this actually harm our game or does it enhance it even though it wasn't intended?'

Gah! I promised I was going to stop campaigning about this. Last post on this topic concerning this, I promise XD

In most cases, I agree that glitches should be fixed. However, That is not the case here. I think this glitch actually turned out to be a good thing for the game overall.

Why? Because I think the assassin is slighty underpowered as it is and now will only become more underpowered without the recloak during grapple ability. Now assassins won't be able to kill any supports camping by their firebase's because they'll be killed during the animation by the firebase. It will also make it impossible to engage any opponent standing near a turret of any kind. All this seems to do is reward camper's with immunity to assassins. IMO, camping shouldn't be rewarded like that.

You don't even need to camp to get the immunity to assassins even, all you have to do is travel with a pack of bots and there ya go, you never have to worry about assassin's again. Taking away that recloak during grapple basically makes the assassin useless.

Honestly, I was surprised to see this on the list of changes because I really didn't think this was a glitch. I thought it was intended because it made sense for it to be this way to make the assassin class more balanced.

Before anyone calls me a whining assassin, only like 5% of my matches have been as assassin. I mainly play gunner, sniper, and assault. I just think the recloak during grapple should be left in the game because I think the assassin class will be underpowered without it thus throwing off the balance of the game which was a strong point of the game.

I wouldn't be so opposed to this change as much if the grapple animation wasn't so long. So maybe if Uber made the the grapple finish a little quicker so the firebase, etc. didn't have time to kill you before the animation ended so you at least had a chance to kill the camping support and living, I would be able to live with that.

The bottom line: Uber cares what we think as a community but they are still going to remove any glitches that they did not intend. Deal with it.
