Another approach to Extreme-Scale Units (more inside)

    Oh, the FA experimentals were certainly fun to use. I certainly got a kick out of building fatboy walls and a-moving a dozen megaliths across the map. But the game design around them was simply bad. It was the resources they needed, the way they trivialized so many other units, the way they were bigger versions of normal unit roles, and the way that they didn't fit into standard play.

    Watching a pile of super units waltz over AI bases is certainly satisfying, but it has nothing to do with strategy. It's just building up a bunch of stuff and rolling over the enemy.

    I am also guilty of building a dozen krogoths and a-moving them across TotalA bases. By comparison, they weren't nearly as effective. It usually took a few waves and they were far less effective when they started nuking each other.
