Bombers are slow. 2 scouts are faster, do quite a lot of damage if you catch an attack early. Once you have a solid number you can alternate between attacking and defending with them really fast.

And there's something beautiful about human players throwing fighters at a ball of scouts, only to have them die in happiness and laser beams.

Bombers are faster then ground units, so I don't get your point.

    Not in all ways. =p

If you're paying attention they're not entirely difficult to outmaneuver. And there's nothing saying an update won't slow them down, or make some ground units faster.

True, but still taking out a blob should be easier then ever with the updated bombers, and especially the T2 ones.

And if they have fighter cover or AA then you're screwed. Gunships are likely at least fast enough to back off at that point

Yes, that paper really knows how to put rock in its place. Also, there are no scissors.

    What counters bombers, counters gunships.

The weaknesses of the two are not mutually exclusive, and in fact gunships would be easier to shoot down during a turn then a bomber.

You seem to be implying that bombers are more maneuverable than gunships, which I would imagine would actually rival fighters as far as speed and agility.

A gunship that rivals a fighter in speed and agility?

You sir must be joking, as that is unfathomable to have, as gunships would then likely far to powerful or simply a different model of the current scout plane.

Gunships with their sustained fire-power potential against ground targets are extremely unlikely to be as fast as fighters, and are much more unlikely to be as agile.

As it stands, I see NO reason to include them for any reason other then that people will complain that they are not present.

Have you not seen actual helicopter gunships in action?

Yes, they are much slower then modern military jets.

I am not sure what.....you expected?

EDIT: I feel like I am being baited, like this is a trap.

Typically bombers are best if you just need to kill a target and don't care about your losses in doing so. They hit really hard in one pass and then they generally die as their flight path takes them over too many additional missile turrets.

Gunships are better for hitting the edges. Their damage output isn't as great but they tend to die less because, like a tank, they can float to the edge of their firing range and fire on the target without incurring the wrath of every missile tower behind it.

That said, they are far more brittle than tanks and far more expensive than bots. I generally treat them as "special forces".

I think there's a good place for them and imagine they'll add them in eventually.

If this game has any sense of balance, then fighters will be faster then gunships. If not then gunships will be almost imposable to counter if the player is paying attention.

I meant that as "They're much more maneuverable than bombers" and not so much of "they're as fast as fighters".

Someone above me put it best, they'll be great for quick defenses, they're good for harrassing forces, and they can get the hell out of dodge quick if there's too much AA.
