Either way I think the core of the argument in the article is sound for online games ; don't worry about what others think, you are entertaining yourself not them. If you want to be top tier, barring any agreed upon standards (I.e., no Akuma, no hacks) for your particular venue then anything can and will go. The only way to better yourself is to expand your options, and you might even find a counter. Don't worry if you didn't discover how to do something, worry about being able to execute the discovery the best.
