I also switched away from a skills build to a more standard RoF build

ironically, that is like the main gripe of the QQ'ers.

"ROF builds are cheap and OP for the assault" lol

Now the nerf has moved people to it :)

I'm gonna try Skill, ROF and armor setups.

The thing I felt the most was the charge being forever on cooldown so I think I'm in your boat here: Gold skill will probably make him play more like I'm used to.

i think that was more or less the my original point. rather than embracing variety the patches are forcing classes to be homogenized in order to be successful which is a shame.

I did. Because I'm not talking about just laying something down and waiting. I personally do not place bombs down just to place them down, I like to use them. And if I bait someone into following me and they fall for the bomb, that is strategy. I put a plan of action in play, used what I had available, and got the goal.

The reason why I have to stay in danger is because if someone just puts it on a jump pad or whatever, you are not always assured a good vantage point to make sure that the bomb will be effective (especially if you aren't at 3 yet). so to make sure there will be some effectiveness, you have to make sure someone will be in the path instead of guessing.

Sure, there are parts in the game that you can sit and wait for someone to walk over a bomb that you laid down five minutes ago, but that's five minutes of waiting for it to work. As an assault, you should be pushing, not doting over a trap for a hehehe kill. A bomb is better suited for other things than that.

Because something doesn't do damage, it has less value? I'm going to let that lay where it is.

I'm comparing traps, Vlane. All of these things can be used as traps. If you jump into a place where a Support placed his turret, you have seconds to get away. God forbid you are a slow class or are already injured. You're dead. If you were trying to get away and you stumble on a trap? you're dead. There are variables in game play. Even if it does not explode does not mean it is useless.

If any support just lumped a turret in the middle of the ground and walked away, you might be right here. But as most supports know better.
