SupCom is NOT an amazing game, by any means. It has a stable balance, sure, but that balance is so cookie cutter it often makes me want to cry. It still has awful netcode problems, and there are still bugs that make me want to punch the desk from time to time. There's a reason less than 200 people play it per week.

That's not excusing PA or TA from their own problems, though.

Regardless of all your personal criticisms of Supreme Commander, it was well regarded at release right from day one as evidenced by the huge number of high profile 90%+ critic reviews: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/supreme-commander/critic-reviews

I can understand why you would all want to downplay this particularly when you contrast against launch reviews of PA.

I spent ages waiting for the lobby list to load, waited a while longer for the lobby to fill up and then the game crashed and we all had to restart. This game is not finished.

Actually I can see user reviews from 2007 giving it a less than five score. What point in time do you see many positive reviews, around 2010 and up.

Squishy....please...My point stands, and you know it. SupCom was extremely well regarded at launch again as evidenced by the large number of high profile 90%+ critic reviews at launch in 2007 (click through the reviews if you want) independent of whether you didn't like it or whether you once met a guy who's sister's friend's uncle's brother didn't.

Actually I love Supcom, I'm just saying there are user reviews from 2007 that have given it below a five. I'd imagine user reviews are the ones you'd actually want to listen to considering they're from... The people who actually play the game.

Supcom was a really good game, it just ran terribly when it came out, and it had a balance I don't particularly enjoy. (The whole T2 better than T1, t3 over t2, etc...) The 81km maps kind of broke the game, because the game wasn't built for them. It's ai was really dumb, and it had a SERIOUS cpu leakage.

Actually it's funny, most gripes with 1.0 Supcom are similar to PA's, one being that the game comes to a grinding halt on larger games on large maps.

Note: You needed an epic computer by their standards to run Supcom well in 2007.

Edit: It's weird, the right of the screen gives you these reviews (Like the 2007 ones with negative ratings) yet when you click to show review it sends you to the user reviews page, showing a couple reviews. The odd thing is it doesn't let you go to that review even though that's what the button says it'll do, and most of those reviews are all from 2010 and up... I guess those reviews were take off, because they were outdated? I dunno. :l

Notice the positive score is in 2010, long after 1.0 release. ;)

I can't say if all from 2007 are bad or not, because for some reason it won't let me go that far, but so far I haven't seen one.. (That has appeared in that box, as old ones only appear there for some reason.)

Squishy...I know you're an intelligent person. Surely you realize how utterly unconvincing it is to point to two cases of bad user submitted reviews in the face of overwhelming positive critical reception of a game?

I don't really trust critic reviews, for any game (Or anything else for that matter XD) anymore, sorry. :S

Not trying to piss anyone off, but just because one would have a computer, doesnt mean this game will be playable.

In that light, no one every wants to step back and look at anything on there end as being the problem. Its always the devs fault and the game gets labeled broken.

Still you should look everywhere before saying a game is broken, it might very well be on ur end.

I bought 6 copies for me and my friends and we have no problems.

I'm sorry but with my post count you can't possibly imagine I'm this fresh?

I've been around don't you worry. I'm not talking about my isolated case.

and if you and your friends all play games that last under 20-30 minutes, that's fine. but I don't. plus i don't even do it on purpose. I join random hosts.

they turn out to hae huge sprawling maps, I'm like "great! I dig this stuff! and my computer can load it up faster then everyone!" but reach the 20 min mark and you've already got 4000 units on the map and sim speed starts dropping (don't tell me that's NEEEEEEEVER eeeever happened to you?).

quickly it becomes something I can't stick around for.

You take an average when you make up your mind about a game.

I haven't played a non-laggy PA match in 6 months now. I have every right to call it not playable.

It was advertised that PA would run 40 player matches and have a million unit cap for those, with positive sim speed.

that's what baited me. that's the stuff I like. that's what I want to play.

4000 units and PA starts lagging.

even on our private hacked-in servers we've run 32 players max and haven't yet reached 40. and "run" ....oh my world, what a big word.

lol the "critics" are bandwagon jumpers. There was a bandwagon to jump onto for SupCom, but there isn't one for PA. Why? Because SupCom was backed by a big publisher.

There is only one real critic writing about videogames today, and that's me. So you either pay attention to me, or you pay attention to players who know their stuff (hint: more than half of the people posting on this forum don't, include plenty of old timers). But you yourself must know your stuff in order to determine which players know their stuff, so it gets tricky ;)

Well SupCom at release was probably twice as "old" as PA at release. If Uber manages to continue work on PA as planned PA has a bright future ahead. Who will care about a borked release when the game has drastically changed over the years anyway.

We seem to have similar tastes, so I'm OK with you being the "go to" game critic going forward :)

Speaking of old timers, I wonder what the average age of people on this forum is...I get the impression we're on average older than you'd find in lots of other game communities. RTS games don't seem to appeal to the youngins as much.

It's for this reason that I almost think PA might be better served at some point down the line with some sort of expansion. The expansion (along with all the improvements made to the base game) provides an opportunity to get games journalists to take a look at it again, fresh metacritic score, etc. Could lead to a massive popularity spike for the game.

Well still quite a few of us TA players about, so yeah I think on average we're an 'older' community than some games :)

What I don't understand is why the YouTube videos are not taking off. PA is insanely exciting to watch, and just seeing the video thumbnails of a zoomed out planet should get people interested enough to click and take a look. Once they HAVE taken a look, and provided they watched a half decent video (of which there are hundreds online) I can't see anyone who is interested in RTS or RTT not falling in love with the game.

I guess it just takes time.
