the thing is we perceive the passage of time, though we're supposed to understand that time hasn't passe for every new match, do you see what I mean?

We feel like we could visualize progress as we go from one battle to the next but really, in the lore they are happening simultaneously on these different maps.

THAT explains the starting over from just one unit and 0 resources and going to t2/t3.

on the other hand *upgrades*, the kind you just research at a research facility and then all the sudden all the units already built not the ones you're going to build, get a sudden boost, make no sense whatsoever.

Erm im certain in both Starcraft and Supcom's campaign the events are a storyline and therefore happen one after the other. Which means you DO redundantly re-research tech you already researched a day ago. (Lore wise.)

squishy my explanation accounts for that because (at least in the supcom campaign) when you complete a mission you've acquired a new unit and in the next you can now use this unit and when you get a tech it sometimes allows you to start the next mission with buildings from that tech already built, toward the end you start with fully built bases and such. In starcraft I think something similar occurs but to a lesser extent.

I was focusing on multiplayer's lore explanation there.

This change would have made SupCom2 a hell of a lot better.

No need to pull cheese with tech saving until a battle when it really does not give you a benefit.

I didn't mind the upgrades personally, it's like jerry rigging stuff mid battle.

But it didn't make a good SupCom game, that's for sure.

Tbh I would not see an issues with an upgrade system where:
    a) only newly build units profit
    b) the units have a very visible difference

but yeah the instant pop up as well as the fact that you could not scout at all into what direction your opponent was teching was bad.

Fortunately my and my friends don't do as much, as that would be considered a little too cheesy for their tastes.

Also, I distinctly remember a preview of SupCom2 that stated all upgrades would be visual, but then it didn't end up that way.

Well once the tank has 2 guns instead of 1 you can see it. But there is no way to tell about it before it roflstomps you.

It just occurred to me that we already have differently skinned yet identical units in the game: our commanders. If I'm not mistaken the different commanders all move at the same speed, build the same things, have the same health and deal the same damage. This is what I want for different factions, just a visual thing. They can technically be all the same.
