Perhaps I'm missing something - but when playing against AI, I don't see any level of difficulty. The AI for a newbie is incredibly hard - I'm destroyed before I can even really get things going, or able to learn what the heck is going on...the game is really cool, but frustrating because it's so hard. If there is no level of difficulty, it would be nice to have this added. Or even add a sandbox mode, where you can just build and learn... Thoughts?
You can nerf the ai's economy when you set up the game. You could also boost your economy, but this is not good practice as you'd play the game very differently. Setting the ai's economy to 0 means they don't build anything, aka sandbox mode.
When you are setting up the game, there is a box with a "1" in it to set the AI economy rate. You can turn that down to something smaller, like .5, until you have a better handle on the game. There are improvements to the UI and the AI coming that will let you set an actual difficulty, but it may be a while before you see that. You should also keep in mind that the AI is going to get much better over time. In fact, the next update (hopefully coming out early next week) should see a much more aggressive AI.
I wish there would be a separate value for energy and metal because they don't scale in the same way. So while 0.5 might be good for metal it completely destroys energy.
Glad they've got Sorian on their team, it's good to see people already complaining that the AI is too difficult while the game is still in beta.
In the future there will be AI settings... but to be honest, the AI is doing ok, but a good way to learn the basics for this game... later the AI as it is right now, won't be a big hassle anymore. But hey, next patch is coming and the AI will get even better. Don't give up and you will get better soon.
