How would you like wormholes?

Anyone here read the Commonwealth saga by Peter F Hamilton?

A few of the battles described in the saga had some very interesting ideas which I would love to see implemented in a game. Namingly wormholes.

    1) Attack
Wormholes were used to fantastic effect, opening them in low orbit around a planet to throw barrage of munitions (nukes, missiles, relativistic kinetics, drop pods/ships with infantry) onto the planet and then closing it before the defending planet could respond with its own barrage through the wormhole to the attackers staging post.

Wormholes could throw units and munitions between distant planets. The wormholes would consume a LOT of power and the range of any wormhole could be directly related to how much locally generated power can be throw into the staging post wormhole generator (located on a planet or asteroid).

Players would have to be careful as they run the risk of missiles, units, nukes etc being thrown back in their face. This could produce what I think could be an interesting blitz strike tactic. with short and intense attacks with high stakes for all involved.

    2) Economy and troop movement
The other thought I had for wormholes was to have them shipping resources and units between planets when the players economies could afford to build and run them on their planets. Players could then decide what planets to link in their networks.

Do they link all the lava and gas planets to a single rear industrial world to churn out units and port them to the front line planets? or do they only link worlds which are close together to reduce power cost and leap frog units and resources from planet to planet?

Again a wormhole owner would have to be careful to ensure there were sufficient forces to defend it, or retain the ability to sever the wormhole (cut power, or destroy receiving point) in the event of an attack.

This is a lot of ideas but I wanted to see what the community thought of them and to start a discussion! pros and cons, changes and improvements, agree or disagree.

    TL;DR

    1) Open wormholes in orbit to attack from another planet/asteroid (careful not to let the enemy back through)

    2) Planetary wormholes to link your worlds long or short distances (careful not to let the enemy back through)

    3) In all cases massive cost in energy

    4) Wormholes would be awesome.

    5) What do you all think?

[EDIT]: Seems I was wrong about GW being a real time extension of the strategic zoom. Made changes to my post accordingly.

Isn't it? hmm I'll have to go back and check out that update again.

Any thoughts on the ideas themselves? applied outside of GW.

is there a source for that? I had assumed it would be for some reason

Thanks for finding that Yourtime, that has clarified it for me. The risk thing sounds awesome. Hope there is still scope for more than one star within a game though!

Corrected assumption about GW being real time :) my mistake.

    Thoughts about wormholes?
