Is anyone else here getting an immediate crash on startup in windows8? I'm trying to help a customer and I've run out of ideas and ability to debug remotely. Perhaps someone else had this and was able to work around it?
Same thing here, but Windows 7. Are you sure it's something to do specifically with Windows 8 and not something more general? Also, any further info on their setup?
No, I'm not sure. It could literally be anything. Likely it's some kind of setup issue or driver issue with that particular machine. It's trying to get info about exactly what's crashing that's the problem. Since it seems to be during init we aren't getting good logs or dmps.
Nothing in the Windows event viewer? GPU & Coherent crashes at startup tend to log at the system level.
Game hasn't crashed once for me unfortunately (/fortunately ). I'm GeForce though, could be a Radeon card issue if he/she's got enough RAM?
Its not a radeon card thats the problem. I run win8 pro with a 5850 black and it runs fine. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-8970- ... -GTX-TITAN
Running PA on Windows 8, no Problems so far ... System: AMD Phenom 9500 AMD HD 4670 512MB 2GB RAM [I'm still surprised PA runs on this crappy hardware]
Can it maybe there a problem with the soundcard driver? I have that problem after my four years old motherboard thinks it can "forget" my soundcard. Because of that, the PA client crash with a gray screen at startup. After I reinstalled my sounddrivers, and Windows 7 knows my soundcard again, the client works fine as always.
Im on windows 8 on my backup pc(ergh) e6600 / GTX460C / Gigabyte P31-ES3G & doesn't crash on either launcher/steam client - I just get awful stuttering due to "system" process spiking.
Im windows 8 64 bit with nvidia and intel processors i don't have any problems. Im actually suprised about the frame rate im getting(89fps during game) All graphics setting maxed out. make sure the graphics card is up to date and os.
I haven't had any issues on the following: - Win 8 64bit - 4gb ram - Intel Core 2 - Quad Q6600 cpu - Nvidia GTX 570 I would try: 1 - Uninstall any software you don't use (like fancy mouse or audio software, or stuff you just installed to try out) 2 - Check your Startup directory and clean out anything you really don't need running all the time 3 - Do a complete virus and malware scan 4 - Install the latest Video and Sound card drivers 5 - Install the latest .Net framework 6 - Install PA 7 - Temporarily disable any antivirus/firewall before starting game (Remember to reactivate later)
Looks like the good old go stepping q6600 is going to be the bare minimum. dual core wont be enough. Also i'd be willing to bet if you up your frequency to over four the frame rate will rise considerably. Four gig of ram wont be enough, the bad news is that ram prices have sky rocketed to almost doulbe when you look at 8gig dimms.
When i tried it on my laptop which runs windows 8 i had a crash on startup and i had to install The directx runtime libraries even though the game runs on opengl. Could have to do with and other number of libraries you have pulled into the game. Did the computer happen to be running an amd gpu, and what kind of crash was it? gonna try to replicate it with some pc parts i have laying around.
My current theory is that fmod might be trying to use DirectSound output which would pull in parts of directx.
