Will there be a non-Steam version of PA?

I ask because without any online connection or DRM, as well as LAN support, my friends and I are looking to PA as being our next big LAN game (our first new LAN game in a very long time).

However, I have had really bad experiences at LANs before where we have tried to play steam games in offline mode, and there are always one or two people who, for whatever reason, cannot get their steam offline modes to work. Either that or Steam finds some other way to throw a spanner in the works.

With that in mind, will there be a non-Steam version of PA available?

BUT! To use steam you need to convert your key to a steam one. This is a 1-way operation, after which you can *only* play on steam.

This means if you at all want to play a non-steam version in future, you can never play PA on steam.

Considering there's no point in converting it to a steam game (if you really must, add it as a non steam game, should still give you the overlay) it would be kinda silly to do it anyway.

(Yeah, I'm not a big fan of steam. :p )

How sure are you that this doesn't refer only to the alpha and beta? If the game is DRM free, why couldn't Uber just offer a download of the final game? If you've ever bought something off, say, humble bundle or a store like that, you typically get a slew of keys. You get a direct download, a Steam key, Desura, etc. I can understand wanting to keep the pre-release closed with something DRMish, but that doesn't mean you're forever stuck with Steam thanks for the $90 SUCKA. Ahem.

If Uber allowed non-steam use as well, then you effectively have 2 keys for the price of 1. Uber have no control of refunds etc. through steam, so it can't be undone.

Thanks for that quote raevn. This clarifies it and I will have to really think about it.
