Just a quick question for the devs about the upcoming free DLC. Will it be required to play online matches? There are two issues: 1. Even if it's free, not everyone will download it. This could mean that, if one person in the lobby doesn't have it, we don't get Spunky Cola Arena 2. If it's required, there may be regions where it is unavailable, thus not allowing some people to play online I'm asking because another game recently released free DLC and it was required to play online. For some reason, it's unavailable in Portugal, so some people can't play online!
I'm pretty sure since it's free you'll be forced to download it, just like if it was a patch. It may take some time to download but everyone will need it.
This isn't PC, patches and DLC are separate packages. For consoles, the patches include the fixes and gives the code to allow the DLC to work with the main game. The actual maps are the DLC.
its either free, or the new map fixes are a patch and the new map is a dlc (they are releasing a patch and a dlc, or just a mandatory dlc) of course, id like to force people to have the new map. i mean, i guess we could have some games with the map and some without, i dont wana be selfish. i just hate having to back out and in. to amend the problem on another game, i would give bad feedback to people without the map, so my searches for servers would avoid them. i dont like that idea, but i dont like not doing anything about it and it being money not-so-well spent...
Maybe they will do it like on call of duty WaW and make special playlists just for the new DLC ? I hope so
As the DLC is free I would assume that the game will want to update first time booted on the release date, Maps and patch would be install together. The DLC and patch are being released in one package so they don't get caught up in MS checks. I bet alot of people will load the new maps and get a nice surprise, not knowing they had it.
It isn't always Patches mandatory, DLC optional. Goto the marketplace for Burnout Paradise (the 1.9 thing). Their Patches are on the Marketplace :| But I do hope it is included in the patch. Anyone who played Halo 3 knows how annoying it is when some guy joins who doesn't have the damn Heroic Maps.
As far as I know, Microsoft will not let you release content in a patch, only fixes, hence why the Burnout patch is DLC :|
Everyone will get the patch, as it will enable you to use the DLC as soon as you decide to download it. Unless the new [Tasty Pickup] is only available in Spunky Cola Arena, the patch will enable it to drop in all maps regardless of whether or not an individual player has the DLC. One person without shouldn't enable game-wide stuffs. The DLC are the maps, and new Mickey Cantor lines, and new loading videos and intro videos and other stuff.
To play online in both Blitz and Crossfire, DLC will be required. As others have mentioned, because it is free, we wanted to make sure everyone has it since it contains a large amount of changes. There's also a new Title Update that will install automatically when you launch MNC.
Well thats good to here. Is there an estimate on a release date? or is it again just up to Microsoft?
I'm happy to be wrong. One of the worst things is having DLC you've PAID for disabled because someone doesn't have it (Damn you MW2!!) At least its free, so no issues except for HD space against downloading it.
