Let's say their team has a punishing sniper, and you are a heavy.... it would make sense to allow a switch of class, but the game penalizes you by not refunding all of the money you have invested so far... what are you expected to do, guess ahead of time what your team needs?

    Really problematic imo.

I don't see the big deal. It's not like it costs a fortune to upgrade.

it technically doesn't punish people for changing classes

I do. I'd like to be able to switch classes as well, but I rarely do because of the cost to upgrade.

$300 to upgrade two skills to level 2. $300 is very easy to come by.

Imo switching classes mid-game does more harm to your team then good. It's best to not pick you class right away at the start of the game. Instead watch what both your team and the enemy team pick.

If you are picking another class to counter an enemy try setting up multiple endorsement loadout with the same class.

Another tip is you don't need any upgrades to spawn bots. This is really the only reason why I would switch class mid-match.

See it is this kind of stuff that I like to hear. This is something I haven't thought of doing as I figured it was more damaging to my team if I changed and lost all my support upgrades. Then again, I REALLY like spawning Gap Shots...so... :)

But I like hearing this type of strategy; it gets me thinking along different lines.

You can't see what the other team picks on the PC version without first picking your own class first. At least, I haven't found a way to do it. On 360, I always used to pick my class based on what the best player(s) on the other team picked.

I thought holding, or pressing, tab brings up the scoreboard therefore allowing you to see what the other team is picking?

That is kinda lame. I mean I know it is something small but it holds great value. Why would they allow it on the 360 version but not the PC version?

this works but you need to refresh it regularly as just pressing tab will bring up the scoreboard with blank classes for everyone so you need to press tab a few times to keep refreshing it

    Dubblebass
spawning gapshots are the only reason you would change classes to spawn bots

just to add to Z-UNIT. it doesn't refresh by itself on pc and once the "choose class" menu shows up, you cannot bring the scoreboard up again until you've finished chooisng your class. so... you could probably only see the class the player with the fastest computer picks, assuming he doesn't hesitate much.

and as for it being something small but of great value, it truly is and i think this should be made legit instead of a trick, like display enemy team roster etc

Idk Gremlins and Bouncers are also a valuable bot to spawn. I recently started playing Assassin and I can tell you nothing annoys me more them some Bouncers.

Gremlins are a bit of a gamble. A smart tank player will let all but one live and deploy allowing the gremlin to attack it in which case will earn full juice in about 30 seconds. For the other Pros gremlins can be a real hassle, not to mention gremlins are the best sneak attack turret attackers.

On top of everything turrets will attack bots before Pros. taking advantage of this is key!

P.s. I typed this before Ray posted and I agree with what he suggested. Although in organized matches picking what class you are really has no effect since there is generally one of each class.

usually i can see what about half the other team chooses before i need to pick a class as the scoreboard seems to be delayed in displaying what class people choose

    RayHanley
i usually have the scoreboard up from when i connect to the server till about 5 seconds before spawning as that is the only time i can get it to clear from the screen at the start of a game

Especially if you're killing bots/turrets/etc left and right
Once in a while if my team is holding pretty well and I got the cash I'll switch to Support just to blow said cash on Gapshots
On the PC? Yea it does, at least it does for me

Ah ok, cool, then I am gtg.

I like when my teammates spawn bouncers too. I overheal them as soon as I see them because they seem to tie up pros somewhat. At least they are distracting.

Gremlins I have little problem with honestly. Even the hurt gun kills them all rather quickly. I understand they hit pretty hard (at least as a support) but the heal while I kill them makes them just a nuisance, but not as bad as a Bouncer.

I wait until a few players have picked their class on my own team, but I can only wait so long.

In TF2, if there is a great spy on the other team, I could switch to pyro on the fly, take care of him, and then switch back. In this game, if I am gunner and they have 1-2 great snipers, the map is a waste for me.. unless I start over in the cash department.

There is absolutely no reason for money spent on upgrades not to be refunded.

You should also be able to switch classes without dieing first...

so if the game went to overtime everyone could change to assassin get a couple of thousand cash back build a bunch of turrets and be standing on the other teams spawn ring with juice waiting for the ball to drop
you think thats not a reason not to have refunds?
how about a few min before ot someone changes to support and spawns 10 gapshots goodbye other teams turrets

I like the current system with the exception of making it so that you have to die to change class.
