When Steam is updating Planetary Annihilation, my Panda Cloud security software picks up PA.exe as a "keylogger" virus? Please help.

This issue has been documented on the forums before. Panda thinks it's a virus. It's not. Add an exception.
I suggest switching to Avast Antivirus to avoid this issue in the future.

Which time and time again misidentifies Nvidia driver updates as a root-kit with cryptic alert messages.

Point being, none of the AV suites have perfect heuristics...

It's because the anti-virus uses heuristics, this allows for virus scanners to detect virii based on a files machine code (assembly).
Unfortunatly some programs that use the internet connection or programs that patch other files come up as false posatives for trojans.
This is because thats how a trojan functions they modify files and use the internet/network connection, so anything that acts like a trojan will be detected as a trojan, this is because the virus scanner developers haven't added an exception to it in thier program and it will always come up as a posative.

The best thing to do is report the issue to "Panda" so they can update their database to include PA.exe as an exception or to stop the heuristics from picking it up as a false posative.

Agreed. MSE is free, unobtrusive, and if it flags something incorrectly you can just unflag it and MSE will not bother you anymore. Of course it doesn't matter what AV suite you have if you just go willy-nilly clicking on every 'GTAV.PC.RELEASE.OMG.FOREALZ.EXE' torrent you come across hoping to get lucky.

I have also emailed Panda and asked them to please check into this erroneous flagging. More emails from folks will help that. That is, however, our only recourse. We can't force them to remove it, to my knowledge.

I don't us AV software either. Just don't go running around stupidly on the Internet and you'll be fine.

AV software has a long history of interfering with EVERYTHING

Avast is pretty great. I haven't gotten practically any false positives from it and those that you do get are easy to fix. Plus it's free. :D

I had a pretty nasty false positive from avast a while ago that not only tagged a perfectly harmless exe (and made it unuseable) as a virus but only did so in a way that made it near impossible to verify what exactly happened. Showing the path to the "virus" shortened with /.../ in the warning window is a SUPER STUPID IDEA of the avast makers. Resulted in 2 hours of search until I found some super hidden log that showed the full name.

I never ever had trouble with Microsoft Security Essentials, which came #1 out of the free anti virus software.

Not recommending anything, just pointing out ^^

I don't know what version of avast that was in but currently you can just hover over the shortened path to see the full version.
