(Why is noone playing PTE?) Renamed : Now we have a good reason to play PTE

Uber gave us this amazing gift, now it's up to us to make the best of it.

EDIT: so considering a new PTE patch is out whose balance is praised by Zaphod (and I can't say I'm not swayed), there really no longer is any reason to not switch to PTE

Because Uber told us not to.

that was because everyone was one it one the first couple hours it was released, not the same now.

especially with the activity being low even on stable.

I am not even able to play a game against AI on the PTE. I played 2 or 3 games on the first day, but after that I have not been able to even start the game. I have never spotted anyone in the lobby; I thought it may have something to do with me using the steam version but I don't really know for sure.

Because I can't even get the launcher to start.

new PTE build is up anyhow so time to test it eh?

you gotta redownload it and make sure you set it to intall in the same dirrectory as the old launcher. (or more spicifically 1 dirrectory higher)

you can delete the old launcher beforehand.

I found that creating the "Planetary Annihilation/stable" and "Planetary Annihilation/PTE" directories myself and copying the files from "PA" over into both saved me a huge amount of time for patching ( since the new patcher also works by comparing checksums ^^)

Completely agree! PTE is a ghost town. I'd play it now but I can't, limited broadband until 12AM o~o

I gotta say though, PTE shouldn't be the only place you go to experience Planetary Annihilation. It's not built for that. But, it's an awesome place to see some changes in advance.

But there isn't fire in the current version of the game

that's why PTE's the total BALL, man!

And at least in PTE there's no damn "it'sme" bugging you.

Of course it should be Public, we should have a stable build that we can steadily improve, and an insane build where we can CRUSH those new bugs and issues and test new things! thats what where here for right? testing and TESTING the crap out of anything your doing so we can help ^^

how do i play on PTE?

The stable build is actually the one for bug testing.
Bugs in the PTE build could be related to features that will change before they ever reach the stable build.

open your PA install folder by right clicking on PA launcher in windows menu and clicking "Open file location".


go down a folder(into either "PA" or "Planetary Annihilation") where Pa.exe is, and copy the entire content of that folder (ctrl+A ; crtl+C)

Go back up one where PALauncher.exe is, and create the folder "Planetary Annihilation" (if the one already there was "PA") and in it create two folders "stable" and "PTE" and paste (ctrl+V) inside each one. (you can then delete the entire "PA" folder who's content you copied if you want to)

copy the folder directory in the address bar (ctrl-C) of the place where PALauncher.exe is

during the install process, say you want to change the install directory and paste (ctrl-V) the path where you want to install it.
allow PAlauncher to run, log in to it, click on your name with the drop down arrow, select "Build Options..." tick both "stable" and "PTE", hit "save", in the drop down "Stream" list select "PTE" and hit "verify" (you can do the same for "stable").


There you go, the first steps are just to avoid you redownloading the entire game twice they are timesavers (and disk space savers) but not mandatory.

I don't like using the PTE because you have to update to go into it then update to play the stable again.
And since my internet is slow AND unreliable, 5 times out of 10 I'm going to disconnect half way through the update process.

The installs exist side-by-side, you shouldn't need to do this.
