Why are new players drawn to Assassin?

When the game was on sale seeing three assassins on both teams was not uncommon. Why do 50% of new people gravitate to one class?

I don't ever remember 50% of the players in a TF2 server ever being Spy - in fact it was always one of the less noob played classes with only a couple spies on any given twelve person team. What makes MNC's assassin (who to a new player is deceptively analogous to the Spy in many ways) so popular?

But really, i only played this game for the free weekend...and i was pretty much owning everyone with the assassin. backgrabs, destroying turrets, making people rage.....funny as hell XP

to new players the sin is the most op class in the history of gaming and people always take the easy option
that or you cant play as pit girl and sin is the next best option

And second question, why do they think they are good Assassin players?

Japanese servers have class limits.
I get Assassin before everyone else thanks to my CPU speed (lower loading times teehee).
My teammate, who had something about Assassin in his name, started shooting me with Gunner and yelling at me to give him Assassin. I didnt because the other team was pretty strong and we needed the strongest Assassin we could get. Never having seen him before, I assumed his was not.


I went around doing my job, killing bots, turrets, etc.
The guy and his friend started flaming again in the middle of the match, dude spyro ur assassin sucks give it to my butt-buddy.

Not replying to them, I won the match pretty handily.
After the game I saw their levels. Mine is 296, theirs were below 30. New weekend buyers who think they rock with Assassin.
So typical.

Next game he was on the other team and really wanted to prove something.
He basically stalked me thinking if he could kill me a lot it would prove his Assassin is better. I let him do it so that I could prove a point of my own.
I allowed him to maintain a 50% kill ratio on me. After once again winning by a very large margin, I told him, Gosh, you sure got a lot of kills. So why did your team lose? Assassin is for killing bots and turrets, not pros. Learn how to play Assassin before talking ****.


I am hoping he will remember that match and really learn how to play Assassin. Or crush all of his dreams so he will move to another class, and we wont have all these Assassins running around anymore. Either way.

Hopefully it's because they get killed by assassins, then figure they'll try out the class to figure out how it works. Learning!

i had someone tell me that the assassin is a counter to tank, i continued to railgun grapple them until they changed class, it took 3 games

If Uber released this as an alternate outfit we'd end up having 12 assassins in each server.

limit all servers to 1 assassin, problem solved hahaha this would make me get a SSD just to load into the game faster to get the only assassin
