Let me first explain what I meant by "multi terrain". A multi terrain unit is a unit that can traverse at least 2 fundamentally different terrains. That may be Ground and water (amphibious), lava and ground (hover), air and orbital (aerospace), etc. It is my understanding that this game will support all manner of different planets, from oceanic, to desert and lava, to ultimately gas giants and it has been confirmed that we will see at least hoover tanks and all terrain bots. The question remains where should these units be build? Obviously in the factory that produces that type of unit (tanks in tank factory, bots in bot factory), but should they be able to be build from factories that build units that traverse the similar terrain. For hoover units that means should hover units be buildable in naval as well as tank factories (and vice versa for ships that can traverse land - if such a unit is ever put in the game)? Same goes for aerospace assets should such vessels or craft be buildable by both air factories and orbital launcher? Should we allow only some cross building? And if yes, by what tier factories? Building a T2 hover tank in a T2 naval factory seems overkill, on the other hand building an amphibious cruiser in a T2 tank or bot factory seems like you are constructing a tank in your garage, but on the other hand if we do allow T2 hover tanks to be build by T1 naval factories how do we confront the problem of tech jumping? I'm personally leaning toward only allow some - for example hover tanks should be buildable by ground and naval - that makes sense since hovertanks can be used literally everywhere, but seeing an amphibious cruiser (if such a unit should exist) on a dry, non-naval planet would seem strange. I still have no idea about Tech jumping.
unless they make it like TA and add a hover tank factory and have a few hover tanks, In example Hover meaning amphibious, both land and sea above water. Hover Anit Air Hover Artilery Hover Tank Submersible Hover Tank <-- for attacking Subs
It really comes down to Role and 'Primary Attribute' for me. I don't see a Hover tank as something that can fight naval units as much as a unit that can take advantage of water terrain that regular units can't. So in that regard it should be in the land factory. But it really comes down to a case by case basis. Mike
Precedent of TA and supcom says they ought to be built in their primary attribute factory, so a ship with legs gets built in the shipyard, a tank that can submerge gets built in the tank factory. Seaplanes get their own factory because they filled the niche of building air units on maps with no land.
