Hey Volks, I own PA since the Alpha, and i really like to play it. I mostly play with friends 2on2 or 3on3. I enjoy 1on1 (cause it don't lagg usually) but Team play is a waaaaaay more fun^^. But one thing hasn't changed the whole time. THE LAAAAAAG, each month i try some rounds PA with my firends. And each time we get dissapointed again =(. Short version: It laggs sometimes early somtimes mid, my mates have dissconects (they are talking to me in Team Speak while they just dc...). Even the Menu laggs, joining Servers laggs, the whole Game laggs -,- Its like "can u send tanks to PING" "yeah okay, but they aren't moving =(" "well i dont need your support, im dead now" "gg" Sometimes i can't select units, can't do area patrol, screen freezes. My graphics card is cold, and the CPU is chilling @ 30%. This isn't the way gaming is ment to be. So for now ill go out in the "real life" again, see ya next month. PS: Keep in Mind PA is AWESOME and when it runs smooth, it can be as popular as SC2.
You sent your parts but whats your connection speed? If it's slow then your connection is bad and you need to improve your internets, if it's jumpy and twitchy then send a report to @sorian (They're really good with that stuff) so the uber team can look into it. You may have a good toaster but if it doesn't get "quick" electricity then your just have a shiny toaster which can't toast toast
Would be interesting to determine if that is *client side* or *network related* lag... Have you tried the game in offline mode (go into settings, local server and set to 'on', then host an AI skirmish game). If you can run a skirmish with several AI on a large system *without lag* that that eliminates both Uber's server and internet issues and shows you how well the game can run. If your game lags hard in that situation it's probably your hardware (which is likely, I've been having very disappointing performance results from my FX 8320 rig, especially given how well my old lappy handles the game). Edit: Also before anyone asks me, yes my drivers are up to date. And to double prove the point it *isn't a software problem* I've installed the latest version of Ubuntu and tested under there. The game is exhibiting serious cpu bottle neck symptoms, where my GPU is hardly being utilized and I'm getting drops to circa 10fps quite early on (specifically when stuff blows up- it's like there's something in that shader that kills performance of the FX). If it were Windows driver related it would smooth it out in Linux, but same. I guess it could be a hardware fault, but the machine plays all sorts of other demanding games, runs through the latest 3D mark and so on with no issue.
same here. apparently the servers give different performances from one another. Game plays fine if I play offline, but if i log in to playfab then click on "1v1 ranked match", INSTANT LAG as soon as my com hits the map. after a bit my units positions take somewhere between a second to 5-6 to update. I'm basically playing blindfolded. https://forums.uberent.com/threads/pa-server-doing-really-today.68229/ the people I played with reported they where getting no server lag at all.
I usually don't get lag until the sim speed starts dipping mid-late game. Although I guess you could call it lag when the UI dies or you get disconnected from the server... My internet is rated for a measly 10Mbit down 2Mbit up. But I highly doubt the internet connection is the problem unless you don't have anything comparable to reasonable internet speeds whatsoever.
I've found PA runs strangely on different machines. It runs great on my laptop, which is decent but not exactly high end (A10 chip, 8gb RAM, crap GPU), but barely any better on my home desktop, which has a more powerful CPU and GPU. Both AMD CPUs, same amount of RAM, home PC has a nvidia GPU while laptop is AMD but I can't imagine that's making a difference since PA barely uses the graphics card of either. Seems PA is incapable of utilising the extra power of my desktop's processor. Not that I'm complaining, never expected to be able to run big games of PA smoothly while I'm at uni so it was a nice surprise to get the same performance
