    I've asked around a bit and done some searching but haven't been able to find a concrete and exact answer to explain what "Uberskill" is on the www.pastats.com website. I want to know what it is and how it's calculated.

    Cheers

    I don't know the calculation, however it looks at all games for a player on pa stats and calculates your rating from that, rather than purely 1 game type.

    Before ladder reset I had terribly 1 v 1 rating as was playing regularly against some of the top players and I was losing more than I won (though I did win a few). My uberskill rating was much higher though as overall I win lots of other games (e.g. teams or ffa) so was a more accurate reflection of skill.

    This time I'm slightly higher on ladder than uberskill as I've been using the matchmaker system so I'm playing games I have a chance of winning :p

    Uberskill as displayed on the PAStats Ladder is a rating system that was conceived as an improvement over Elo. Those ranks are currently calculated based on all 1v1 matches registered by PAStats since 2014-09-05T16:45:00Z.

    I did a lot of searching for the definition of UberSkill the other day too. Basically, it's an implementation of a ranking algorithm similar to Microsoft's TrueSkill, which is based on the Glicko rating system and considered an improvement over Elo.

    What finally clarified this for me was the API documentation.

    EDIT: The PAStats developer (@cola_colin I think?) may have intentionally kept this ambiguous since Microsoft has patented the TrueSkill algorithm and licenses it out to other companies and developers for multiplayer online games. So I think it is important to note that the implementation is similar, but not exactly the same as TrueSkill, as most probably based on freely available descriptions like the wikipedia article above on how TrueSkill works, based on the comments in this post.

    EDIT again:
    @cola_colin clarified below that PAStats does not do any UberSkill/TrueSkill calculations, and that this ranking is part of pastats.tk run by @Illmaren.

    I am the developer of PA Stats, however ladder.pastats.tk is a 3rd party project run by @Illmaren.
    I dunno what exactly Uberskill on his page does, I thought it copies the trueskill ranking from the IRC bot @yrrep wrote.
    PA Stats does not show any public rating, but it provides a webservice to get a list of games on which the rankings by 3rd parties are based on. Internally PA Stats has a simple ELO 1vs1 rating for every player which is used for the 1vs1 automatches.

    Ah, interesting. Thanks for clarifying that. It's difficult to determine based on the links between pastats.com and pastats.tk which site does what and how they are intertwined. At one point I thought you and @Illmaren might be the same person!

    I should clearly sue Illmaren about my rights on pastats!

    UberSkill = TrueSkill
    1on1 = ELO
    2on2 = ELO

    Any idea why I would be #92/420 on Uberskill, but only #282/420 on PA Stats 1v1?

    Incidentally I much prefer the Uberskill system. ;)
