The only class I've really played much in PM's are sniper so cut me some slack. What is an assault's role? Is he a semi-slayer compared to the gunner or is he more of a hit-and-run type of class?
-Finish off kills the gunner couldn't -Keep the support separated from the gunner -Harass the sniper if he's open -Harass the tank if he's in the bot lanes -Put damage on anybody you can so that they're easier for everybody else to kill -Kill sh*t
I wrote up a huge indepth post about this and when I went to submit it it said this page couldn't be found, and there was no way of getting the text back. If I have time to write it up again at work, I will. If not I'll just write it later. Shammas, if the assault has a brain it should be an easy match up. If they chase em around the corner in the bot lanes, then it's easy match up for the tank.
can you explain to me how? It's not like the assault is pushing bots the same way the assassin or tank would be. It's job is to is to clear the pro's not maintain the bots. Steel peel I can get you from up top of the outer walkway's or the ledges on top of your ring. Ammomule I have even more breathing room to kill you in the bot lane. Lazer is the only map where I feel you have the advantage. This isn't a reflection of your own skill, but regardless I couldn't see how the tank has the advantage of killing an assault who isn't just running around the corner into him. You have to kill me to prevent me from clearing the bot lane. All I have to do is harass/distract you, but it will most likely result in a kill. A smart tank will most likely find a way to stay alive, but the slaying match up is definitely not in it's favor. besides, in general the tank's match up is a more favorable.. rail gun for long distance, easy kill close range, but midrange is where most of the fights take place.
As long as I keep you in front of me, it's an easy kill. I shoot you 3 times, you run away. If you don't run away, you die. 90% of the time I have a clutch passive waiting. So in the unlikely event that you catch me off guard and I'm hurt, you chase me as I passive and I kill you. I strongly disagree about Ammomule. I don't see how you'd get close to me on that map. Steel Peel you have the advantage if you get above me on my own ledge. On Lazer you pretty much have to bomb me off the map. I definitely think the slaying advantage is in the tank's favor, at least it is when I'm playing tank.
Judging by how everyone play's tank on ammomule, they seem to sit in one lane, either pushed up with map control, or behind/under their bridge when they lose it. I can get up on a bridge and shoot downward, I can shoot downward from the dome, I can get on the corner ledges behind your bridge. Ammomule is only a lil more difficult for the assault because of how open you are to getting shot while in the enemy base. We're not talking about "well when I'm playing I always have the better advantage because I can just out-play the assault". We're talking about the match up on paper, not between two specific or even on specific player. Also the movements of the assault that you described don't fit under what I consider the assault having a brain. The assault shouldn't be facing you head on, but from different angles. If you still manage to keep in him front of your view, then it's better for the opposite team if you aren't watching bots. Like I said, the tank has the advantage in long and close range battles. The assault has the medium range advantage.
Aight son. But the topic of the thread is still about the assault's role in PMs and I apologize for derailing. Take it away Teapot!
Nah it's not too derailed...you're discussing the reasoning behind why an assault should be hesitant about doing what I suggested. Here's what I meant to say: If the tank sitting in the bot lanes doing nothing but blocking the assassin, throw bombs at him.
