Despite the fact I've never used any of these programs, enough time spent in the dark places of the internet has given me elitist views on which are best and which are used only by useless n00bs.

Used it for MWO, and if I decided to cast I would use this program again. Its very good, and if you do go Pro (quite cheap really) it will even detect the game you are running and properly screen cap it. Very good program like much indeed (lol)

Fraps, but its not real-time.
I record then upload, no live streaming...

Fraps has almost no impact on performance when i'm recording,,
All other software's i have tried have had issues, including obs.

I bet your one of those people who probably thinks "Unity" is a kickarse gaming engine too.. lol
Not all reviews on the net should be listened too.

First hand experience is the only way to go....
I suggest you try some of these things before passing judgement, or you end up coming off sounding more n00b than any of us!!!

I find that OBS is a PAIN in the neck... It seems to be terribly unintuitive, and doesn't do the job properly.

No issues experienced with Fraps - it's reliable, but I prefer Mirillis Action. Unfortunately, Action! doesn't support PA Beta yet.

I find OBS to be the easiest to use and most performant.

My internet is too crappy to livestream, but I can record at lower resolutions on less demanding games.

Really? How do you use it? I've spent about an hour trying to get it to record video and it always fails

When you say "It always fails" what exactly do you mean? What's the roadblock? Are you having trouble configuring the stream, or starting the stream, or finding the file, or what?

I'm not actually streaming, I'm trying to get it to record video.

And that's the roadblock. It doesn't, or it records black screen, or it records the desktop not the application, or it records the application not the sound, or it records the sound and black screen, etc.

Odd. I haven't seen this. What are your audio settings?

For OBS?I followed all the tutorials. I basically did everything I could do get it working, but... no. So I've uninstalled.

In other words I have no idea.
