I have been wondering when there is only one faction meaning only unit set, well that make all of us happy. but, there is a problem. Can one faction be complex and hard to master, it better be worth it having one faction. because if i feel there ain't enough strategy with one unit set then i will be mad. Also don't hate micromanagement.

One unit set doesn't mean any of the things you imply it does, all it means, is that everyone has the same options as everyone else.

What those options are we don't fully know yet, but with the Tier setup Uber seems to be using we will see lots of units. The best case scenario is that 2 players and use different strategies and not have to use any of the same units as the other player.

Why is that the best scenario?

Because having the built in variety to use a completely different set of units to your opponent is good?

Because that's the entire point of having multiple factions: To force asymmetry and variety.

If you want an example of a game that does this, you can look at M.A.X..

Same unit pool, 8 different factions. In their case, they allowed you to choose a faction with a set of advantages/disadvantages for your units. I'd personally love to see that come back for PA, but a lot of people seem to think you can't be competitive without both players having identical units.

Nobody has said that, ever. If they did, then they're silly.

PA is sticking with a single faction to lessen the work load. Less balance problems. Less unit designs. More time for everything else.

Several factions where the different commanders belong. 1 unit pool. Thats how i have understood it so far.

Do "factions" even make sense in the PA universe?

Though this does bring up a good question: What will the lore be like for PA?

This discussion is so long past.
If you're worried about not being able to have good strategy with just one faction you should try playing chess or sports.

I have yet to see a sport with the same set of units...

    Nicely said. :)

I only reference the continuing fluffle-fest that ensued from the 'Commanders may have abilities slightly different from each other' statement from Neutrino.

    I agree, they're silly. :)

I dunno about you but other then the induvigual skill of the players, all sports seem to have a very similar set of humans for units.

And that is avoiding sports like chess.

As far as i remember, the good old Age of Empires 2 also had identical unit sets, with the exception of one or perhaps a few special units. I don't remember that game suffering because of it. In the case of PA, the "special units" here are simply the commander you choose. If a single faction means that the faction has 2-3 times more variety, i think this is much to prefer.

I remember hearing they were trying to shoot for "less than a hundred", so I don't think we'll need to fear only seeing 10 in total. More like 80 or something.

say there are 3 factroys: land, air and sea.

each factory makes about 5 units, and there is a basic and advanced version of each factory.

Thats about 30 units just there as a base, not including all of the other crazy stuff you could add, and then add to the other factroys too.
