Wazupwiop's Guide to MNC for New Players

After playing several games with and against newer players and watching them make the same mistakes over and over again, I have decided to write this guide in hopes that it may help players new to MNC. To experienced players, this guide will seem simple and basic, but this is not intended for you. It is intended for those who are new to MNC. Without further adieu, here is my guide:

    1. Endorsements

Endorsements play a major role in Monday Night Combat. Endorsements can turn the tide of a game and can make battles more complicated. Endorsements are ranked in Gold, Silver, and Bronze slots. The gold slot makes your character much better in a certain area, while bronze only helps a little bit.

There are ten or twelve choices in endorsements that effect reload times, Rate of Fire, Accuracy, Critical shot, skill regen, health regen, Armor, and etc. depending on the ones you choose.

Armor and Rate of Fire endorsements are common among all the classes and are highly recommended. Accuracy is also a good endorsement depending on the class you use. Endorsements can be changed for custom classes in the locker room.

Choosing endorsements only pertaining to offense is not a good idea. Armor and health endorsements are also important. Armor can help you survive the fight and health regen helps you to return to the battlefield much more quickly than without health regen. While many players are successful without armor, when they are taken by surprise they are easily killed.

Skills and secondary abilities are also important in MNC. A lot of people use skill regen so they can spam secondary abilities. This endorsement is may not be suited for all classes/situations though.

    Some recommended endorsements are:

    Assault:

    RoF/Armor/Accuracy
    Armor/Accuracy/RoF
    Accuracy/Armor/RoF
    Armor/Skill Regen/Health Regen

    Assassin:
    Armor/RoF/Skill Regen or Health Regen

    Gunner:
    Accuracy/Armor/RoF
    RoF/Armor/Accuracy

    Tank:
    RoF/Armor/Skill Regen or Accuracy

    Sniper:
    RoF/Armor/Accuracy or Clip

    Support:
    RoF/Armor/Skill Recovery

    Skill Recovery/RoF/Armor

While endorsements are useful and they can determine if you live or die, there is no substitute for skill. The endorsement builds listed above are the recommended builds; however, a lot of players use uncommon builds to suit their play style. Experiment and see what you like. When you die, look at the endorsements of the person who killed you. Their endorsements can be a tip to what you might want to try. Keep in mind that different endorsements require different play styles. An up-close and personal assault might get rid of accuracy and use higher armor. I tend to be a long-range combatant. I use gold accuracy a lot because I like to take others down outside of their effective ranges.

    2. General Guidelines for Classes

Assault: The all-purpose killer. The assault has many different play styles. Endorsements are a major part of the assault. Generally, the assault is an excellent counter to all pros. You can choose your battles easily as assault. You also have a large variety of attacks. I find that the best counter to most pros is emptying half an AR clip into an enemy and charging them. Bomb placement is also a key part of assault. Head crabs and ring outs are always fun.

Sniper: The long-range killer. Basically watch out for any close-range pros. You have a powerful grapple, but only use it when necessary. Learn to quick scope. Spam your traps and flak. You are a counter to all pros at long range, but you also excel at taking down bots.

Assassin: The one-hit killer. Back-grapples with the dagger kill 75% of pros in one hit. Back-grapples with the katana are deadly to 95% of pros. A lunge combined with a grapple is also deadly. Strike from the back if you can and turn off your cloak when you approach an enemy. If you fail to turn off your cloak, you will alert the enemy to your presence because of the hum, which is very bad!!! You counter pros and bots easily under the right conditions. Stay alert and watch your surroundings, failing to do so will get you killed.

Support: The turret builder. Supports excel at holding ground. Their firebases and turret-hacking abilities are very important for any team. You also excel in close-range combat. Your shotgun will eliminate most pros in 3 hits or less. You have no long-range weapon, but your firebase makes up for that.

Tank: The damage sponge. Tanks have the highest health in the game. Bots are like paper when you approach them with your jet gun. The beam rifle also has a good amount of damage and is good vs. pros and bots. You counter all pros at close-range. You counter bots at all ranges. You also are good vs. turrets with your product grenade and jet gun. Use your secondary abilities often.

Gunner: The Slayer. It is your job, as gunner, to keep pros in their spawn room and to destroy their turrets. You destroy pretty much everything!!! You really only need to watch out for snipers. Every other pro is taken down in three seconds or less. Use your mortar often. Mortars are great vs. bots and turrets. You juice much more quickly with your mortar as well. Gold accuracy is highly recommended.

    3. Play Smart

A lot of players get themselves into really stupid situations where they end up dying. Death is an issue for many reasons. Firstly, when you die, the enemy can take ground. Secondly, you give the enemy juice, money, a chance to push bots, a chance to push ground, and a chance to kill your team mates...... You also force your team to play down a person until you are able to get back to the battlefield.

You can play smart in several ways. Playing smart requires you to think before you act. Before jumping into the midst of three enemies, you need to think, "How could this end?" Basically, if I see a gunner, I need to think about how I should approach him. I could attack him from the front, but I would probably end up dying. I could approach him from the back, and I could definitely kill him with a grapple, bomb, bullets, airstrike, etc. I could also use the ejector and probably get 75$ for the kill without risking my life. If I were in that situation, I would take the ejector. I could ring him out and then taunt. The ejector costs 50$ to use. The taunt would pay for using the ejector and I would get $75 to spend on juice, turrets, upgrades, bots, ejectors, annihilator, etc.

Playing smart also requires you to play sneakily. Sometimes you might need to lure an opponent into a certain area before striking. Sometimes you might need to get a little bit of ground between you and your enemy. It really just depends on the situation. An example of this might be placing a bomb in a certain way to ring a person out. You might want to place the bomb, get the enemy's attention by firing at them, then detonating the bomb when they are near it to get an easy kill or ring out.

Endorsement analyzation is also key to playing smart. Here is a scenario: Two assaults of equal skill level are fighting. Assault A is using RoF/Accuracy/Critical Shot, a very quick-killing build. Assault B is using Armor/RoF/Accuracy, a build with a little more survivability, but lower killing power. Assault B is getting ripped apart by Assault A's accuracy and critical bullets. What should assault B do? The answer is that Assault B should kill the enemy assault when the enemy is distracted or when he is at close range. Assault B has higher armor, but lacks the accuracy of Assault A. By getting close and taking him by surprise, Assault B uses his armor to his advantage; he also is using his enemy's lack of armor to his advantage.

Using the map to your advantage is key to playing effectively. Map advantages include the layout, ejector spots, and the annihilator. If you can use these tools to your advantage, you will be much better at the game. I get tons of kills on careless players who don't watch the ejector control spots.

    4. Playing the Game

You may think that MNC is about killing pros and nothing else. This is an invalid way to play the game. Pro killing has its place, but it won't win the game. Killing enemy pros stops them from juicing and killing massive amounts of bots, players, or turrets. Pro-killing has its place, but should not be your only objective. Your main objective is to destroy the money ball. To do this, you must push bots. You push bots by taking down anything between your bots and the money ball. It takes two bots to take down the money ball shield. Killing pros and destroying turrets is much easier when they are distracted with your bots and not shooting at you.

This game is not Halo. If you want to slay people, play Halo. The main objective of MNC is to destroy the moneyball, not kill-farm. Killing enemy pros is a part of the game, but not the main objective. Some pros such as the assault and the gunner are more suited for killing pros, but classes such as the support and the assassin are much more bot-focused and should be played differently.

    5. Learn to Play Effectively

I will split this section of the guide into two parts, playing offensively and defensively.

Offensive: You need to play offensively in the beginning of the game and when your team is winning. Try not to play defensively at the beginning of the match, because if you do, you will give the enemy map control on your turf. When playing offensively, your main objective is to kill pros. If you are not killing pros, shoot bots and turrets. When you get overrun by your enemies, you need to try to avoid dying and give them the least amount of ground as possible. By forcing the team into their base, you will score kills on them when they are trying to destroy your robot army.

When playing offensively, you need to be the biggest pain in the butt as you can. Even if you don't kill the enemies, you are forcing them to give up ground through injuring them. When your bots enter their side of the map, they will need to attempt to push their bots by killing yours. If you shoot their turrets, they will need to repair the ones that you and your bots damaged. They will also need to focus their attacks on you to get you out of their base. If three enemies gang up on you, you are occupying half of their team and giving your team the advantage. Playing offensively is not always about killing, sometimes it is just keeping the enemy occupied while your teammates push foreward.

Defensive: You should only play defensively from the start if you are a playing a defensive sniper or support. The only time that other classes must play defensively is if they are on the losing team. If you have to play defensively, build turrets to defend your base and kill bots like crazy. If any enemy pros are in your base, kill them if you can. When you are about to lose, you need to fight out of the spawn room. Playing defensively is mostly about bot control, building up your base, and not allowing the enemy to score kills on you.

    6. Juice, Bacon, Speed Pickups, and Churros

In this section of the guide, I am going to explain what juice, bacon, speed pickups, and churros are.

Juice: Juice is basically god mode for ten seconds. When juiced, you have a high damage resistance and amazing killing power. You get juice through destroying bots and turrets, killing players, and picking up juice boxes. You can also buy juice from a juice vendor for $500. You lose any juice you have collected when you die.

Bacon: Bacon gives you all gold endorsements for the rest of the life of your player. Bacon is very rare and should be picked up at all costs. I, personally, have only gotten bacon 7 times. Bacon is dropped by bots, Bullseye, and Jackbots.

Speed pickups: Speed pickups look like little feet and they increase your speed to above gold speed temporarily. They also add a speed endorsement level to your player for the rest of your player's life. If you don't run speed on your character, you can get gold speed in three speed pickups, silver in two pickups, and bronze in one.

Churros: Churros are kind of hard to describe what they look like. They give your character full health if you are damaged, and they also recharge your abilities.

    7. Turrets and their uses.

Turrets are a big part of MNC. Any good player will build turrets. In crossfire, you get all of the money and kills that your turret makes. There are four different kinds of turrets and I will discuss what they do.

Rocket Turrets: Rocket turrets shoot rockets at the enemies and their bots. Rocket turrets are the most armored and the most damaging. These are the best offensive turret.

Lazer Blazers: Lazer blazers shoot lazers at enemies. The lazers aren't that damaging and a player can taunt in front of a lazer blazer to get juice. You really don't want to build these unless you absolutely have to.

Longshots: Longshots are long-range turrets with low health. They are great at destroying bots and other enemies at long range. If you build them, keep them protected.

Shave-Ice Turrets: Shave-Ice turrets slow down enemy pros and bots. They also are great at exposing cloaked assassins. These are best built when combined with other turrets. They also have a pretty good amount of health when upgraded.

    8. How to destroy turrets without Dying.

There will be a time where you will need to destroy a turret. Whether it is a firebase, a rocket turret, or an upgraded laser blazer, you will have to destroy them. Your best bet to destroy turrets is by juicing. Since you won't always be able to juice, I will tell you how to destroy them without juice.

Tank: Tanks can destroy turrets easily by blinding it with a product grenade and then jet gunning it down.

Assault: Bombs and your grenade launcher will rip through turrets.

    Gunner: Mortar them. Nuff said.

Assassin: I find that by cloaking, taking a few slashes, and smoke bombing the turret works really well. Some say turrets go down quicker with shrukens, but I think this is only true when you get cloak three and your shrukens always crit.

Support: Airstrikes work well vs. all turrets unless the turret is under a ledge.

Sniper: Flak 3 melts turrets. It will destroy full health lvl 2 longshots and laser blazers if they aren't overhealed. Your sniper rifle also does decently.

    9. Building Bots.

Each character class can build bots specific to their class. In this section I will explain what characters build what bots and what those bots do.

    All bot spawns cost $100.

Sniper-Scramblers: Scramblers suck the abilities from pros. They have low armor and low attack. They really aren't worth the cash.

Tanks and Gunners-Bouncers: Bouncers grapple and pummel anything in their path. Bouncers are great pro-killers when spawned in groups. Definitely worth the cash when you have it.

Assassin-Gremlins: Gremlins are the assassins's little minions. Gremlins are cloaked until they get right up on their target. They have low armor, but they spawn in groups of four. They have a good attack and are great at killing pros.

Assault-Buzzer: Buzzers are little flying, exploding bots that spawn in groups, and they are great for picking off pros. They can be easily shot down by most decent players, but can really do some damage when they aren't suspected.

Support-Gapshots: Supports build gapshots. Gapshots are basically a longshot in a bot. They are great at killing enemy bots, pros, and turrets. They usually pay for themselves, but they should be overhealed and closely guarded. These are great bots to invest in if you protect them.

    10. How to get better.

I, myself, am trying getting better with all of the classes. To do this for yourself, you need to practice. I suggest that you play through blitz a few times with the class you wish to get better with. Set up a few rocket turrets, and try to work on the skills that you need to improve.

For example, if you need to work on headshots, you need to work on quickscoping bot's heads. As they spawn, try to quickscope them.

If you want to work on your gunner skills or you wish to experiment with clawing, learn to claw while shooting bots. Using blitz, you can really improve your skills with certain classes.

After working through blitz, play a few rounds of crossfire with your new and improved skills. Nothing is better than practicing against real human players. You can drastically improve your skills by playing against people online.

Lastly, read through the guides here on Uberent. The people that write them usually know what they are talking about and probably know what they are doing. I have written a support guide and a sniper guide, and I highly recommend that you read them. If you are looking for a gunner, assault, tank, or assassin guide- Deadeye, Kckzi, Miracle, and Obsidianante (sorry if I misspelled that) are the people to look to for any questions concerning those classes.

If you want to learn some stuff from a better player, message someone here on the forums through Xbox Live or a PM to get some help. Some of the forum members here post videos of their gameplay on Youtube. These are great to learn from. I normally play in the afternoon Monday through Friday and intermittently throughout the weekend. Send me a friend request or a message and I would be happy to help you out.

You can place them near the turrets under the ledge and do the job.

Note this is for new players. I (who think of myself as an advanced player) have trouble doing this myself, let alone a lv10 who plays support for the first time after countless games of going 0-20 as an assassin.
