I've mentioned this once or twice in other threads, but I thought I might put it up for discussion on it's own right. It would be cool to have some planets with an extremely thick atmosphere that creates a lot of interference. Terrain would be hidden by fog of war, units would have reduced LOS and radar, and orbital units wouldn't provide any LOS. Potentially the atmosphere could also have an effect on aircraft, and the corrosive environment might have a negative impact on unit armor. Thoughts? EDIT: The strategic value of this, in case it isn't clear, would be for covert construction and the like.
Sounds like cool modding stuff. I hope we get options to mod the galaxy generator to include new planet types like this. But I think it's not a good idea for the base game, as they've got enough planet types and not enough time as is.
It sounds like a cool idea, but the idea of a Venus like planet is one that doesn't seem to benefit anyone who goes there. The costs are quite large already, so unless you could use a venus planet to build secretly or get a large amount of geothermal deposits or get huge metal deposits, it's just not worth adding it to the game.
This is exactly the point. The fact that orbital units and deep space scanners can't see through the atmosphere means it would be the perfect place to build a massive army in secret.
A Venus-type planet (runaway greenhouse effect) would actually be a good idea for an additional planet type. There could also be a few other possible flags on terran-type planets that could have gameplay effects. Although I think the biggest effect of fighting on Venus would be the heat- Venus is so hot that its surface is literally molten rock. The thick atmosphere might impede sensors, but the surface would be the biggest factor.
