I had a lot of fun with mnc when it came out, but after new games came out and the newness wore off i stopped paying attention to it a while. I remember them saying an update was coming before I stopped following the game. I came back to check up on it only to find that a month later the patch still isn't out? That's a little disheartening, I expected more from mnc considering how well of a start it had.

Thats not Uber's fault, they submitted the patch to Micro$oft really really fast (1-2 weeks after game was released).

The long delay is Micro$oft taking their sweet time.

Microsoft's certification process has been extremely slow for the last 3 games I followed closely (MW2, BC2, and MNC)

This is nothing new, and is certainly not Uber's fault. (Considering the update was available for play at PAX and they released said update ridiculously quickly after the game launched in comparison to say...MW2, which to this day still has issues that have been known bugs since launch and have presumably easy fixes (IE: Weapons equipped with silencers which don't effectively silence the weapon on the mini map.)

Most of our fixes came from these forums. You guys were vocal about it and made it easier for us to find the glitches, exploits and fix them. Thank you. Now if it could just come out already....

Wow. I haven't played that game in half a year, but they still didn't fix it yet? That is almost as embarrassing as the people still playing it.

It truely is. The support for that game has been terrible given how much money it made and how loyal that fan base is. I only play that game when I'm dragged on there by my SnD group i've been playing with across the CoD games for 4+ years now.

But yeah, the basic glitches like that are crazy. Props to Uber for acknowledging and fixing the exploits so quickly. :)

I guess they are too busy counting their money, thats terrible to hear. A game that sells well shouldnt do that to the community...not that they care.

I'm concerned that they are taking their time on this. One would think that an XBLA game with massive popularity and which hinges on its player base would get preference...

    Then again...

Software development & release isn't as easy as some people assume it to be.

Any changes done to a game on the Xbox probably has to go through testing via MS's certification to ensure there are no unexpected changes/impacts on the game or on the xbox. It's not as simple as flipping a switch. There are impacts to any change, especially in IT. And I'm sure MS follows the same process for each patch, not giving priority based on some arbitrary criteria of "the gamers really want it out nooooooooooow!"

I don't get how some games can get a patch out during launch week but other games it takes months.

It might vary depending on the complexity of the patch. (Purely speculation). There are a LOT of changes (balance, host migration, lobby system, and bug fixes) in this patch compared to the changes in most of the MW2 patches (only bug fixes, which still took WEEKS even then).

I emailed xbox support to see WTF the deal is. Here's their generic response:

Maybe if we keep hitting them with questions like, where the **** is the patch (maybe less curse words), they' get on the ball?

Contacting Microsoft will not help. The customer care staff sit in cubicles copying & pasting stock answers to the same two dozen idiotic questions--all day long. They have zero information exchange with the XBLA certification team. If by some divine intervention one of the email droids overheard a conversation between a couple QA lacqueys about an update, he still wouldn't be allowed to tell you.

Xbox LIVE only cares about you when you break a rule.

Never take a rational point of view when Microsoft is concerned. While there are (or at least used to be) a lot of talented people working for MGS, the LIVE bigwigs tend to be money grubbing, inept bobbleheads. Larry Hyrb is a prime example of this.

It's worse than that. There's an eight stage certification process for DLC. After a certain number of updates (it can be as few as one), developers are charged by Microsoft. This is why many minor issues go unpatched. Unlike expeditious fixes on the PC, developers will often roll patches into a singular update to avoid Microsoft's exorbitant fees.

Unfortunately, the only way to counter this is to stop buying games on XBLA...because boycotts always work!

Agreed, except they do clearly give priority and it's to the higher profile games.

One reason for launch week patches is that sometimes issues are discovered with the game after the developer has shipped it but before the game reaches shelves, or late in the development process but the developers don't have time to fix it before they ship it. One way or another, they make a patch that fixes the bugs and it manages to get through cert in time for release week.

My private little hope was that Microsoft would give some preference or priority to a Microsoft published title. But again, that would be inserting some silly common sense into the equation which is always dangerous.
