Unit Group Multi-Tasking

Is there some way to select a fair amount fabrication units, and then when building something (say, a bunch of factories of metal extractors) have them split up and build separate objects at the same time rather than working on the same one and then moving to the next?

I think I was able to do this in Supreme Commander, but I can't remember.

Select them induvidually and queue up more stuff?

Better get some ready sooner than none done yet.
