Pole lock is very useful to build your own mental map of the planet and remember where your ennemies and strategic points are.
However, many of us noticed that this feature becomes problematic when your or the opponent's base is at the poles.

To fix this UI issue, i think it could be useful to allow players to move the camera rotation axis the way he wants. It would be done with a keyboard shortcut using multiple keys (ctrl + shift + c for example) and then move the camera axis poles elsewhere.

The visual feedback of the selection step would be the following:
    - The player selects the position of the north pole with a cursor similar to the spawning location's white spike
    - I am not sure if the camera should rotate during the selection phase or be moved after the selection.

The visual feedback of this change would be the following:
    - 25% opacity of the N and S letters at the standard poles. (it may be better to completely remove them. However, if many players of a team change their camera, it will be harder to communicate about features on the map before a ping system is added)
    - The new camera rotation axis poles have the N and S letters in other colors than red and blue (in the case the standard poles letters are removed, the letters for the new rotation axis keep the red and blue colors)

To revert to the standard camera rotation axis, the player needs to press ctrl + shift + v

    I hope I am clear.

That is a damn good idea. A lot of work to develop. Very helpful if in game.

It could be as simple as changing polelock as it currently is.

Make it a button on the keyboard or a cycle of the n key, that much is a longterm request.

Then, change it to where it locks to its current view instead. No need to change the pole markers. As long as it functions just like pole lock, just from the direction you face. If you face north and polelock, it locks it to rotate around the planet laterally instead, with top being your current facing top and bottom being your current facing bottom.

This probably belongs in the camera feedback thread.
    https://forums.uberent.com/threads/official-camera-feedback-thread.54623/

I don't think your suggestion actually fixes the problem, which is that the camera has a mini seizure when it gets right up on the pole. All this would do is move the broken camera area to another location. What do you think about the pole "soft lock" suggestion described in that thread, that would change pole lock into something that just smoothly guides the camera in the right direction without forcing it? The soft lock speed could be a function of distance from the pole, so that you get more freedom in the problem areas.

As I said before, I would really like to see the camera move smoothly every single time it is automatically controlled. That means double-tapping C or T would guide the camera over the target unit, and switching to a saved camera location would move slowly too. This works even when switching to another planet, because the camera can just zoom out, move, and zoom back in.

My overall vision for this is a camera that always preserves your current mental orientation even when it reorients you automatically. The smooth transition is necessary to preserve the sense of actually being in the game, and it helps you get a better sense of "before and after" than what we have now (When pressing N, for example).

    *Edit*
I had no idea I wrote that much, I guess I got carried away. Sorry if I hijacked your thread.

No this was a good suggestion too.

It would be nice if the camera was influenced instead of hard jerked.

I honestly sympathize, but don't have my own problems with a pole base. Just requires another series of button press to navigate. Using rotate to turn and up and down to pan.
