I purchased PA a few days ago and have been trying to get it running on my Linux system running Ubuntu 13.10. System is running a pair of Radeon 7770 in Crossfire (AMD proprietary drivers 13.101-130523a-157671E-ATI). All I get is a black screen and the game then hangs. I do have background music that kicks in when you leave it running for about 1 minute. I have linked my Steam account, tried that Javascript UI "Fix", validated the files, deleted, re-installed and nothing. Would appreciate some help. Thanks.
Then you need to check this topic: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/finally-works-with-amd-proprietary-drivers.53693/ And issue on bugtracker: PA#2343.
Definitely a step closer. Can see the game but no color and no mouse also very slow and jerky. Any ideas?
So can't play it till its fixed is what you are saying? Time frame? Is there anyone working on the bug?
Are you new to Linux? If you talking about grayed game windows it's not game bug, it's something wrong with Compiz. You can check workaround on bugtracker. Black screen it's also not game bug, but AMD proprietary drivers bug and AMD totally ignore any reports about that: http://devgurus.amd.com/thread/167591 Though you can check my last comment for PA#2343 and try to post it on AMD Catalyst "unofficial" bugtracker. Other problems you met (cursor, performance) most likely also related to AMD drivers.
Ironic how the "no cursor" and "black and white" was only experienced when using Open Source drivers. Seems all too easy to blame AMD for all the screw ups in this game. In all honesty I feel robbed of my money for something that doesn't work. This shouldn't have been released as a purchase through Steam in such a poorly put together package. It would appear as if it is on sale to raise money for non existent development costs. I feel a big F'you is in order but it has clearly already been directed at the consumer. Just another corporation giving the consumer an uninvited rectal examination as far as I'm concerned. Excuse after excuse. Shame on you guys.
And no I am not new to Linux. I do however expect paid for software to work. Especially when free software works perfectly fine. It is also unacceptable that a business depends on its users that paid for its software to report bugs. Make it work. It is as simple as that. If that is not an obtainable goal then you should be looking at a different industry. Again, f'ing rediculous.
If you want support start by running windows on early releases your bound to get more support that way. Plus try running one card till retail.
you can't be serious man, it's a beta. you've not bought the final game, but the final game when it's done and the right to play the beta, and if you like, report bug. i can understand your frustration, but you'll have to wait or switch to another OS in the meantime.
I would agree with his irritation, if it was a finished game. It is beta, like Starbound. In Starbound, it started where every planet travel crashed the game. Are they a trash company releasing defective goods? No, it is beta. It was patched in a week. It still has missing text in the game such as item description boxes. It is beta. I would demand a refund OP, if and ONLY IF it isn't fixed by actual release date. If it is a bother to fix the problems, just don't play right now, and when release comes and you see the news or whatever on the internet, then try it again when it should by all rights work properly. Meanwhile, Mac actually has more problems running this game than Linux.
Then you shouldn't use AMD graphics on Linux because it's permanently broken on Catalyst and lack of features on open source drivers. I'm use HD6950 with FOSS drivers myself and I know what I'm talking about.
