    The minethread just enlighten me.
In strategic zoom there could be some tools to paint strategic maps, where to place mines, where to hold where to move etc. There was a game that had such a feature. Cant remember the name though.

Someone made a "whiteboard" mod for SupCom, also Valve's Alien Swarm also had a similar feature on it's Minimap.

I like the concept, it's just open to abuse by dirty minded people.

I think a "Ping" or a temporary marker would be sufficient and prevents one from cluttering a map. I wouldn't wanna be bothered by some Mine marker or "Build defenses here" marker thats 45 minutes old.

This guy's right, Dota 2 has the same thing, where you can scribble on the minimap, usually to draw where to go for a gank or an ambush.
Of course, many people rarely use it for that. Hell, I'm prone to using it to write insults to That Br Ursa that doesn't have Blink Dagger or Shadow Blade at 35 minutes, is feeding nonstop and calling us bad.
    That and draw phalli.

I thought it should have influence to behavior of the ai of my smart units. If i paint a minefild i want all near minethrowers to mine it up. I thought it is maybe combineable with the area ai

That'd be good, something like the Minelayer Corvettes of Homeworld 2.

Instead of (or in addition to) strategic paint, we could have varied markers. Long-duration markers, short pings, arrows, "hold", "attack", "nuke" symbols... It could also help coordinating faster, drawing and typing takes a bit of time and attention.

For it to influence AI units, this would be the "orders as first-class entity" idea, which would be great.

This was never a problem in all the Spring games I participated in, Mike (and everyone else). Stop being so sensitive and paranoid over stranger danger.

Like I said, I like the concept, but lets face it, we all know what the internet is really for....

For manufacturing outrage on a vast quantitative scale, apparently.

It would be nice if your human allies could see where you are planning/queuing construction.
In SupCom2 I often get frustrated when my allies just leave a unit sitting in the middle of my planned defensive line, delaying the whole construction process.
Or make some AI clever enough to move out the way, just as they do for units controlled by the same player.

Really? That's a shitty experience. Usually in my games people use it often and I use it as well for actually tactics and such.

dota 2 has this for its minimap. pretty cool, but pretty useless most of the time in that game. in a large scale game like PA it could be nice (as an option, if I dont want to see what a noob teammate spams I wanna turn it off ;)

Yeah sounds good imagine an arrow (curved, for the looks) and then there is an option to click on it and get a second, third and so on arrow out of it. Now you can chose a relation betwen them in thickness. When now army follows this arrow it will autosplit in the givem rate and go after both options.

Another thing could be a frontline (maybe for differnt kinds of units) they try to rush there the hold if opponent flees still hold. So it would be easy to make artillerie bombardment of areas and have the shorterranged units there to guard arti, but dont chase enemy if they retreat into the arti fire.

Also thinkable retreat arrows: units that are highly damaged and retreat follow this path. (Maybe secured area where you can let be autorepaired)

Thats currently all i can think of.
