    @garat & Uber Devs

I've noticed in OSX at least there are considerable difference between how planets render in game vs the System Editor even when set to Uber settings? Can you tell us a bit about what's going on here is this a bug I should report or a design feature?

If you look at planets rendered in the System editor they tend to have much better lighting, finer detail for the Terrain textures and properly render all objects.

Bugs such as: FS#2363 and FS#2433 are not present when you render the planets in System Editor but are present in Game as the screenshots below show.

Is there a separate render path for the System Editor or is something like LOD or texture compression disabled there, but enabled when playing a game? If so how about switching over the game to that method it's alot better looking (though I guess it's probably more resource intensive).

Just thought I'd chuck in my 2c and say maybe this is an OSX thing. I'm running on Windows 7 and my planets seem to be consistent across the editor and ingame as far as I can tell.

Any chance you could upload a couple of screenshots of the same planet one in game & one in System Editor?
If this is the case I'll need to create an OSX bug report.

I already tested this on Linux and there is same problem with Lava planet. I'm already merged your issue into other one reported on Windows..

Might be able to this evening (I'm in Aus here and it's early afternoon). Will do if I can. In regards to SXX's post I haven't had a close look at lava planets so will check.

Had the same problem on Windows 7, so it's not OS related.

Okay as far as Lava planets are concerned mine is indeed doing the same thing. The planet seems the same as the in the planet editor, except that all of the surface is glowy lava. Last time I played them it wasn't like this :p

My earth type seems to be alright though. Can post pics if ya really want

I'm interested in the Screenshots of planet types other than Lava, metal would be a good one, if you can zoom in fairly close to the same region in the system editor and the Game mode and grab a screen shot of each it'd be great!

The less bright may be due to Fog of war in game. Can you generate a Metal planet and zoom all the way in so it's like your looking at a unit in both the System editor and in Game? As for OSX at least if you zoom in all the way in the system editor the basic metal texture for a metal planet has alot of fine detail, while in Game alot of the fine detail on the metal planet texture seems to be missing...

    Hmm, I've got something similar.

In the system editor everything is fine; in-game the features seem to be missing -no trees, no rocks, not even metal spots - it seems to be the FS#2363(the image above) issue.

But my main problem is 2/3 of the strat icons are also missing. I have icons for mex, factories and walls, but that's it.

I'm on mac and before had issues with black textures, but they fixed that :). I should be getting my new MBP on friday, hopefully things will work properly on there or they fix it by then.

Just generated a metal planet and played a little game on it. Metal was ridiculously sparse especially where the start points were :/

    Metal planet in the editor...

In the game it looks more dull. I think the detail level seemed okay though.

Definitely dull on the sun side

Ta, looks like you at least don't have the issue, on my OSX laptop the Metal planet in the System editor renders similar to your SE & in game shots, however my in game MEtal planet looses all the fine detail in the textures they end up pretty much looking Grey, with none of the circuit like markings your has.
