It would be cool if you could have a binary star, (two orbiting around each other). I know it wouldn't really effect gameplay but it would look cool!
Completely and totally agree. It'd be interesting to see more exotic bodies which actually affect gameplay. For example, a pulsar which would disrupt radar or a black hole which slowly tears the planets apart or something. I get the feeling people wouldn't like a timed match, but if they add a timed mode, it should be with a black hole pulling stuff apart.
I'd agree with this. PA has some huge art potential with the beauty of outer space. Also the options of having multi-star systems and black holes could add some cool mechanics into the game.
Heat could be an interesting mechanic. Units on more distant planets move slower, trudge through snow etc. and units on planets with tighter orbits move faster, but take more damage from lasers/explosions/flame because they're 300 degrees closer to melting. Another possibility is unique wildlife on certain planets. I'm probably going a bit to close to crazy but it would be hilarious to see your army marching through shifting desert dunes only to be eaten by giant sandworms.
I also agree, but unless we have real Kepler mechanic for orbiting it does nothing besides cool look. Currently its impossible to make eccentric orbits or moon around moon, it works in editor but game makes everything circular and max 1 moon depth. Also space travel trajectory is silly (or unfinished) now, so lets wait and hope we get some more realistic and not totally scripted physics for orbital travel. @Geers I liked your ideas, and IMO if its an option to choose or disable there should be no problem with some people not liking it. I demand choices (yes demand) that we can set as starting conditions for our maps as we please. If somebody likes it, may it be just one huge asteroid belt, or water only planet etc, no nukes or no airplanes. Ps. Would be also great if we could put planets (moons) in Lagrangian points (or snap to them, symmetry etc tools)
black hole makes all your units invisible to sight, radar is required to see enemy units Sounds like a great mod or post-release feature.
Not anymore! I suggest you try it out, since I recently tried doing eccentric orbits again and it worked. We have also had moons around moons for a while, but the game has trouble knowing what to do with them when it comes to things like interplanetary nukes.
Let's just say it's weird as hell. I really would love to see them fix the orbiting mechanics first. Even implementing Kepler's Laws for bodies would improve things immensely. Another cool feature would be a collision detection warning - that is, if two orbits cross eachother, the editor can calculate how many orbits it would take to collide (if at all) and notify the user. It might be able to go so far as prevent such events. Once we get to that point, we can start messing with the gravity wells
Don't forsee it being too difficult for an experienced modder to just add a second body in a solar system and have it as a 2nd sun
Ok tatsujb; One, don't just randomly swear for no adequate reason. Two, you're not the first to discuss it so if you're going to link to something link to the original, not shameless self promotion of your own topics. Three, your topic has been dead for almost six months.
