i just ''played'' my first game, but had no hud or we and only had control over my ''commander''. there were no chatboxes to say this to other players. i know this is alpha and it still has issues, but can anyone help me?
You can actually chat with other players by hitting Enter. What do you mean you had no hud? There should be a control bar at the right side when you have a unit selected, at the bottom if you have a constructor selected and at the top always showing your ressources and income.
You build structures with the commander, if you didn't saw ANYTHING when you pressed him, restart the game, if this happens again, contract one of uber employees.
